ISPmanager 6 version overview

Everyone seems to know about the ISPmanager panel, its advantages and capabilities - this is one of the most popular clues for managing Linux-based VPS and servers.

It would seem, well, what else to add? Everything has already been said. But recently the developers from ISPsystem presented a new version - ISPmanager 6. Let's see what innovations can be seen in the clue now and what we can expect in the future.

What's ISPmanager?

First, let's talk a little about the essence of the service, how it works.

After installing that software on the server, the administrator gets a bare console, which is not very appropriate to work with. Of course, specialists are well versed in commands and can manage all processes from the terminal, but most people prefer a graphical interface with accessible documentation and visible settings.

ISPmanager is just that very graphical manage panel that simplifies work with installed software.

The first version of ISPmanager was released in 2013, and since then the product has been actively developed. During this period, the developers made more than 1500 changes and more than five times expanded the code base. The ISPsystem team quickly adapts to new modules, operating systems and additional tools. ISPmanager 5 started supporting:

    Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04,
    centOS 8,
    Debian 10.

The following services have also been added:

    PHP 7.3 and 7.4
    MySQL 8.0

ISPmanager also improves the quality of encryption: now users can work through Let's Encrypt ACME v2 and DNSSEC; new protocols appeared: HTTP 2.0 and NAT converter.

ISPsystem is also working on improving the interface. Today, ISPmanager's graphical interface looks modern and appropriate.

Features of ISPmanager

At the moment ISPmanager offers:

    unlimited count of users in any tariff plan;
    setting access rights;
    full manage over domains: CMS integration, work with redirects, SSL certificates and other technical issues;
    DNS editing and management;
    work with mail systems;
    creation and administration of databases;
    connecting users via FTP to certain directories;
    complete statistics;
    separation of users by access rights.

Of course, this is not the whole list of ISPmanager features. It has a lot of additional parameters and settings, which are described in detail in the official documentation.

So, it's time to talk about the new version of the product - ISPmanager 6.

Main changes in ISPmanager 6

Tariffs in ISPmanager 5 were estimated in euros, but now the payment has completely switched to dollars. The company also abandoned the "perpetual" licenses that some users of the fifth version had, so customers who did not renew their subscription will not be able to use the task scheduler.

The main changes affected the tariff system. Retail prices have increased, but there will be special offers for partners. The following versions are available on the ISPsystem website:

    Lite. The minimum version limits the number of websites to ten. Other functions remain the same as in ISPmanager 5.
    Pro. The only difference from Lite is that the count of  websites is 50.
    host. The user can create an unlimited number of websites with the same functionality as in previous versions.
    business. The most advanced plan with many additional tools such as Cloudlinux (planned to be added to Host), reseller management, IP addresses and so on.

Users who are used to the old panel, use their own modules, or manage many websites at the same time will not be "forced" to switch to the new version. The transition will be gradual and seamless, and previous developments will continue to function. Support will continue to work with users of older versions.

Upcoming updates

Although at the moment it seems that the main changes are only in the tariff mode.

First of all, the interface will be improved: it is planned to add appropriate and informative tips. There will also be advanced tutorials to help beginners set up their first website properly.

Until the end of the year, mail observance will appear with new spam filters and some additional features. Along with it, it is planned to launch external and internal observance: the first will display the availability of websites, and the second - resources and running processes. A proactive error manage mode will be added to the analytical tools, which will help identify problems in the user panel.

Many services work with Telegram, and ISPmanager 6 is no special case. In the future, notifications about the state of the system will come directly to the messenger.

In addition, we are gradually integrating:

    Python (Django)

I would advised adding support for oracle linux, as a replacement for the deceased centos is an excellent option, and minimal changes are needed.
openvpn needed for protected connection of users via ftp? maybe wireguard is better (and even better is the exclusion of ftp in favor of sftp)?

What's new in ISPmanager 6
First of all, licenses are now divided by the number of domains served by 1 active panel.

ISPmanager 6 Lite Trial - Free trial version for one domain;
ISPmanager 6 Lite - support for 10 domains
ISPmanager 6 Pro - support for 50 domains
ISPmanager 6 Host - unlimited number of domains
ISPmanager 6 Business - similar to the previous one, unlimited number of domains, but also the ability to license a large number of servers, which should suit Hosting providers.
All tariffs, without exception, support integration with already familiar models for an additional fee.

Let's Encrypt

DDoS Guard

Cloudlinux (Except Lite)

What is the difference between ISPmanager 6 rates
The main difference is the price. Previously, the tariff was one and cost 4 €/month. starting from June, there are several tariffs and the minimum one will cost 5 €/month

How partners and clients will feel at the same time is absolutely indifferent to everybody.
The company's clients are just fodder for the management, there is no respect for them and there will not be. Actually, draw your own conclusions, but if the "super-duper new panel" is more expensive than the current one, we will definitely stop feeding them.
