STACK Infrastructure expands to Australia

STACK Australia is constructing a 72 MW campus in Melbourne's western suburbs, and is also expanding into two key emerging hyperscale markets including a 28 MW data center in Canberra and a 24 MW single data center in Perth.

STACK Infrastructure is partnering with Australian commercial real estate developer Hickory for its national data center platform.

The digital infrastructure provider recently entered the APAC market opening its Singapore regional headquarters and announcing its first 36MW campus in Japan.


OmniStack LS 6200 appliances have 13, 24, or 48 10/100 Mbps ports and four gigabit ports, two of which are combo. (Each combo port supports both copper and optical SFP interfaces, and the user determines which one will work, and when the link is broken, traffic switches from one interface to another.) Support for replaceable SFP optical transceivers allows you to choose the type of Gigabit optical transmission medium ethernet. The OmniStack LS 6200 switches are available with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability; through them, you can remotely power IP phones, wireless LAN access points, video cameras and other devices.

Despite the relatively low cost, the OmniStack LS 6200 switches are characterized by advanced fault tolerance and security features. Reliability is enhanced by a redundant power supply and the ability to use DC power. Due to the presence of a number of algorithms (801.1w, 802.1s), a quick restoration of communication and transfer of traffic to backup channels is ensured. Standard (802.3ad) link aggregation technology also improves network resiliency.

To ensure proper security, the switches implement support for Radius and TACACS + authentication tools, access control lists (ACLs), encryption of remote control channels, blocking of MAC addresses in case of unauthorized access, and other algorithms. Each port supports the 802.1x authentication algorithm. A stack of eight OmniStack LS 6300 switches is assembled using a simple network cable and managed as a single device (one IP address and one configuration file), with a redundant management module.

A further development of OmsniStack access switches will be the release of LS 6400 devices in the near future, which will also support 24 or 48 ports, but with gigabit speed (10/100/1000), and also have four combo ports. A model with 24 SFP ports (100 Mbps or 1 Gbps) and two combo ports is also planned.

For companies that have plans to migrate to gigabit technology and access switches that support L3 routing technologies in their IT strategy, Alcatel-Lucent offers layer 3 stackable switches - 6850L switches, which come with 10/100 ports as standard. They can be licensed upgraded to 1 Gbit or more.

Wireless Access

Corporate resources and utilizations can also be accessed over a wireless LAN (WLAN). Alcatel-Lucent's WLAN (OmniAccess Wireless -OAW) solutions are built on the principle of thin access points. These points provide users with radio access using 802.11a/b/g technologies, but they are "freed" from work that requires large processor resources.
They simply forward 802.11 traffic through tunnels (GRE or IPsec) to OAW switches, and they already process this traffic, perform the functions of encryption, VPN termination, wireless user authentication, etc. This approach provides better scaling of the system, improves its performance, and allows administrators to make various changes easier and faster. In addition, it guarantees faster traffic switching between access points (handoffs), which improves the quality of utilizations that are sensitive to time delay, such as voice.

Alcatel-Lucent offers a wide range of W L W W Access Points and Switches. The WLAN switches come in seven models, from the small OAW-4302 to the modular OAW-6000. The latter supports up to 72 10/1000 Mbps ports (with PoE function) and up to 6 Gigabit Ethernet ports; capable of serving 512 access points and processing 7.2 Gb of encrypted traffic per second.
For a number of situations, the OAW-4307 stack switch with eight 10/100 Mbps (PoE) ports and a Gigabit Ethernet uplink port is optimal, which can serve 16 access points and 200 Mbps of encrypted traffic. Note that access points served by OAW switches do not have to be connected directly to them, they can be located anywhere on the network.

OAW access points are plug-and-play devices: when connected to a network, such an access point automatically builds a secure IP tunnel to the WLAN switch, which again automatically downloads all settings and security policies set by the admin to it.
