Web Hosting ForumWashington, DC — The Internet Infrastructure Coalition (i2Coalition), comprised of nearly sixty member companies representing Internet infrastructure providers and related tech firms, today hosted Internet Education Day on Capitol Hill. The event brought together leading organizations from the Internet infrastructure industry and lawmakers to discuss policy objectives for the 113th Congress.

“By meeting with i2Coalition members, lawmakers had an opportunity to hear directly from the people who provide the platform that allows the Internet economy to thrive,” said Christian Dawson, i2Coalition Co-Founder and Board Chair. “Members of Congress responded positively to our message, and we look forward to working with them in a collaborative manner to continue to foster an open and prosperous Internet.”

Three lawmakers – Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR) & Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) – along with Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian and Christian Dawson delivered remarks, highlighting the need for policies that ensure the Internet’s continued growth. In honor of their efforts to protect the free and open Internet, Sens. Wyden and Moran and Rep. Issa were each presented with the i2Coalition’s “Champion of Internet Innovation” award.

“The Internet Infrastructure Coalition recognized Sens. Wyden and Moran and Rep. Issa for their outstanding contributions to the Internet community,” Dawson said. “Their work on Capitol Hill plays a critical role in educating other lawmakers and the public about the important role the Internet plays in driving American innovation.”

Attendees also had the opportunity to view 15 demonstration booths, showcasing a behind the scenes look at how the Internet works. The booths were organized by the following companies: AiNET, Arvixe, Black Lotus, Cheval Capital, cPanel, Data Foundry, Endurance International Group, FireHost, FortressITX, Gandi.net, Green Olive Tree, Handy Networks LLC, Hedgehog Hosting, Jumpline, LeaseWeb USA, Media Temple, Rackspace, ServInt, Studio1337, WiredTree, Engine Advocacy, CCIA, ISOC, Open Xchange, ScienceLogic and Trustwave.
