How to check SSD speed?

Hello. The site is stored on a SSD drive, this should speed up
the site, how can I check if I have an SSD drive and its speed.



Indeed, about 1 out of 5 hosters provides an "honest" SSD system. Most now have a bunch of SSD-HDD, the so-called 'flashcache', i.e. an SSD is used to cache a larger HDD. Write speeds over 100 Mb/s should be - this is the minimum for an SSD bundle. But a full SSD usually has more than 200 - 230 Mb/s.
For the test, you can use the 'dd' utility. It is in any linux. Before use study it carefully, because data on the server can be corrupted. ::)

VPS implies the use of a server that is either in the cloud or simply on a master cluster, in a word, we, as a user, do not have direct access, however, there are many ways to test the speed.
The first thing that comes to mind is using the Unix command line utility (80% of servers run on it). So, you need to run hdparm and enter the command:
hdparm -tT /dev/sda1
The command line will give information on the response and speed of the disk.


You can check which disk you are using with the command: cat_sys_block_sda_queue_rotational
 If the command returns 0, then you have a non-spinning disk (SSD), if 1, you have an HDD.

The speed can be found using the command: dd if=_dev_sda of=_dev_null bs=8M count=1000;
 instead of _dev_sda, substitute the path _dev_vda or _dev_vdb
and monitor the result of processing - this is the speed of the SSD.

P.S Use / instead of _ in commands...
