Good afternoon. I decided to make money from web design. I am very interested in this topic, but so far I am very poorly versed in this. Please advise where to start learning. Preferably free sources of information. And then how do you start making money? Tell us about your experience

master the general theory and get basic knowledge about websites.

General theory

Color theory. Psychology of perception of shades and their combinations. The ability to manage attention with the help of color, to select palettes.
The basics of composition (how to position blocks relative to each other).
Typography. The ability to choose fonts, build a hierarchy (title – subtitle – main text).
Basic knowledge about websites

How they work, what they consist of, how they are created. What are there (landing pages, corporate websites, catalogs, online stores, etc.).
The basics of usability, the ability to look at the site through the eyes of the user.

To learn web design, at least you need a computer. You need to have a taste for creativity, well, and a little analytics. After we need Photoshop, Adobe XD and Figma. The main topics to study are compositions, typography, interface, colors and style choices.

With the installation of Adobe Photoshop and the purchase of a Photoshop tutorial. Knowledge of Photoshop is mandatory for any designer, this is the standard. Even if you plan to do flash animation or 3D graphics in the future, you can't do without Photoshop.
There are no designers who cannot remove red eyes from a photo or reduce its size.

Only reading a book or only experimenting with brushes and filters will not give results. Without a good theoretical basis, which reading books will give you, you are doomed to invent a bunch of bicycles. Mostly with square wheels.
But only reading a self-help book, without fixing theoretical information in practice, will also do nothing. After a week, what you read is forgotten.
No need to buy a thick book of more than 1000 pages – you will never finish reading it.
The fact that the "Photoshop Bible" will be on the shelf will not add practical knowledge to you. Go to a bookstore, look through all the books that are there. Choose the most understandable for you and not the most subtle.

The main thing is to understand all the possibilities of Photoshop, what in general can be done with this powerful program. More detailed knowledge on the right topic can be easily found on the Internet, in the blogs of practicing designers.
But online Photoshop lessons alone will not replace reading a book – there will be gaps in knowledge that will constantly pop up and prevent you from working.

The question is certainly interesting. Photoshop from Adobe is, in general, the beginning. Moreover, practice is important here, i.e. your idea is your decision, make some test sites. Small tasks, as they become available, can be solved with the help of Google - there is nothing wrong with that, this is the main tool for both programmers and designers, and, in principle, can replace more than one textbook. Personally, I started with a book and ready-made online lessons that gradually offer to draw certain effects, but now I have switched completely to practical study + Google in rare cases and gradually use the search engine less and less.
