Hello!

The main question is about the cost of owning a domain zone under ICANN. It doesn't matter which specific zone it is, whether .xx or .xo or .sdflosowei. What would be the approximate price?

It is not possible to register a two-letter zone as they are reserved for states. Each zone has its own unique registry, which you will need to ensure is functioning properly. You must also have software on your end to control the interaction with the registry. It is your responsibility to engage with ICANN and make regular payments for the zone.
but, registering a domain with your last name in any existing zone is relatively simple - your chosen registrar will take care of it. If you want to become the owner of the zone and registrar yourself, there are certain obligations and requirements that you must fulfill. It is up to you to decide whether or not to allow others to register domains in this zone.

Obtaining your own name on the internet will cost $185,000 for the application. However, according to Alexander Panov, managing partner of the Hosting Community group of companies, the biggest cost is not the application fee. A company that wishes to become the administrator of a new domain name zone must be prepared to build a technical infrastructure and promote domain names, which can result in a total cost of several million dollars. Panov believes that there will not be a large number of applications for new domain name zones.

To obtain a domain name, an organization must meet certain conditions set by ICANN and spend at least $1 million on building infrastructure and legal support for their own first-level domain. It should be noted that global public organizations can receive partial subsidies from ICANN to finance the procedure.

Urban domain names will require a special infrastructure and legal organization at the local level since all residents of the metropolis will potentially be able to register their site under the .metropolis domain, which requires separate regulation.

The cost of owning a domain zone under ICANN can vary depending on multiple factors. ICANN itself does not directly sell or manage domain names, but it oversees the domain name system and accredits domain registrars who provide these services.

The price of registering a domain name ultimately depends on the registrar you choose and their pricing structure. Different registrars may have different pricing tiers, promotional offers, or additional services bundled with the domain name registration. Generally, the cost can range from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars per year.

Additionally, some domain zones may have specific requirements or restrictions that can affect the cost. For example, certain country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) may require a presence in that particular country, which could impact the pricing as well.

To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on the cost of owning a domain in a specific zone, it is recommended to research various accredited domain registrars and compare their prices for the desired domain extension.

To clarify, ICANN does not directly sell or set prices for domain names. Instead, it is responsible for managing and coordinating the top-level domains (TLDs) and accrediting domain registrars.

The cost of owning a domain name can still vary depending on multiple factors. These include the registrar you choose, the type of domain extension you want (.com, .org, .net, etc.), the length of registration (typically one to ten years), and any additional services or features you may require.

In general, the price for a common domain extension like .com can range from around $10 to $50 per year, depending on the registrar and any promotional offers available. Less popular or specialized domain extensions might have different price ranges, and their availability could also affect the cost.

It's important to note that prices can change over time, and different registrars may offer different pricing structures or discounts. It's best to research and compare prices from various accredited domain registrars to get the most accurate and up-to-date information for the specific domain extension you're interested in.

The cost of owning a domain name within a specific TLD can vary depending on factors such as the registrar you choose and the popularity of the TLD. The pricing policies for each TLD are generally determined by the registry operator responsible for managing that specific TLD.

Some TLDs have standard pricing structures set by their respective registries, while others may offer variable pricing based on factors such as name length, demand, or premium status. Additionally, some TLDs may have specific eligibility requirements or restrictions that could impact the cost.

To determine the exact cost of owning a domain name within a specific TLD, it's best to research and compare prices from accredited domain registrars that offer the desired TLD. They will provide information on the pricing for registering, renewing, and maintaining ownership of a domain name within that TLD.
