Struggle with Whois Privacy

I recently registered a domain on internetbs and initially struggled with setting up whois privacy. After some effort, I managed to find a way to punch through whois, but unfortunately my name, phone, and address were displayed, which is quite frustrating considering that this domain is of utmost importance to me. Although the rest of my domains are fine in this regard, I am now unable to set whois privacy for this specific domain. It has been 6 hours since this issue arose, and I'm wondering if there is any way to rectify this situation.

In addition to this, I have now put a Private person instead of contacts. I am concerned if this action might lead to any further consequences. Furthermore, the money for the domain registration was transferred to the registrar from a bank card that is registered under my name. Could this have any impact on the current situation or any potential future issues?

Let's address the issue of not being able to set up whois privacy for your specific domain. This could potentially be due to a few reasons, from registrar-specific settings to certain limitations on domain extensions. It's essential to double-check the policies and options provided by InternetBS regarding whois privacy for the particular domain extension you've registered. If you're still facing difficulties after 6 hours, it might be beneficial to reach out to their customer support for direct assistance.

Regarding your switch to a Private person as the contact, this should generally act as a protective measure for your personal information. However, it's always advisable to ensure that the domain's contact information complies with the legal requirements of the domain registrar and relevant regulations. As for the bank card used for the domain registration being under your name, this is a common practice and shouldn't pose any issues, unless there are specific regulations pertaining to the source of funds for domain registrations in your jurisdiction.

In the grand scheme of things, prioritizing the security and privacy of your online presence is paramount. Invest time in understanding the policies and regulations governing domain registrations and whois privacy, and don't hesitate to seek clarifications directly from the registrar or relevant authorities. Remember, your online presence should reflect your values, and safeguarding your personal information is a pivotal part of that.

Online privacy is a complex issue. The common belief in the privacy of internet information is misleading. In reality, the majority of registrars, including industry giants like GoDaddy, are obligated to disclose user information upon request.
This can lead to potential privacy breaches and unwanted solicitations. It's essential for internet users to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their personal data.

I can tell you that there are firms that provide "premium privacy" services by registering domains offshore. Offshore registration typically means the domain is registered in a country with more lenient privacy laws. However, this service comes at a cost. If the domain is registered through regular means, anyone with an interest can easily access all associated information.

Sometimes, when you toggle privacy settings, the registry takes several hours - or even up to 48 hours-to sync the changes across WHOIS servers. Your personal info leaking despite enabling privacy is likely a caching artifact or a backend sync issue at InternetBS. Switching the contact type to "Private person" is a good move and shouldn't cause further issues, it's a common workaround to mask registrant details.

The payment method being under your name is standard and doesn't affect WHOIS privacy settings. I'd recommend raising a ticket with InternetBS support referencing the exact domain and timestamps, pushing them to escalate internally.
