Greetings!

I've been instructed to immediately update the name to the actual one; otherwise, the domain will face pressure.

I'm hesitant to provide my genuine phone number and address. Will they verify me using this information, or is my name sufficient? Can I opt to only include the house number in the address?

Also, just a gentle reminder, the domain is in the .in zone.

Thank you!

The urgency to update the name to the actual one is typically related to the WHOIS database requirements, which mandate accurate registrant information for domain names. Failure to comply can lead to potential legal and operational implications such as domain suspension or transfer lock.

In most cases, the domain registrar would use the provided contact details (including name, address, and phone number) to verify the domain owner's identity. However, you may have the option to choose privacy protection services offered by the registrar if you are concerned about your personal information being publicly accessible. These services often replace your personal contact information with that of the privacy provider while still ensuring compliance with the registration rules.

Regarding your address, it's essential to provide the complete and accurate address associated with the domain registration. While you may prefer to include only the house number, it's advisable to provide the full address details to avoid any issues with the domain registration process.

Since the domain is in the .in zone, it's important to adhere to the specific regulations and guidelines set forth by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) for .in domain registrations. This may include providing valid and verifiable contact details as per their requirements.
I would recommend reaching out to your domain registrar for precise guidance on the updating process and any available privacy protection options. Always ensure that any changes made comply with the domain registration rules to avoid potential disruptions to your domain's operation.

It's crucial to ensure the authenticity of the information associated with your domain. The first question to consider is, "Who has caused such concern for you?" Moving on, it's essential to specify the data related to the domain that you can confirm and ensure its accuracy. This confirmation serves as a critical step to maintain the legitimacy of your domain.

The next course of action may involve a request to verify the provided data, which could include submitting a set of documents such as a scanned copy of the passport/ID card with a photo, a utility bill or service statement reflecting your address. In some cases, you might also be asked to complete a form affirming the accuracy of the provided data, along with attached scans, acknowledging that your domain could face suspension if incorrect information is detected.

If the domain holds significant value for you or your business, it is crucial to ensure that accurate and valid data is provided. This is essential because, as previously highlighted, the registrar will likely request supporting documentation as the next course of action.

On the other hand, if the domain is not of great importance to you and its potential loss would not adversely impact you, then there may be room to experiment with using incomplete or outdated data.
