Creating Multiple Sites on a Single Domain

Hey there!

I own a domain, let's say it's example.com. To build my website, I created a WordPress folder and installed WordPress in it. Additionally, I created some folders to store html, css, and js files. One of these folders is a shop folder which has Opencart in it. The websites are interconnected with links from one page to another, meaning you can navigate from the Wordpress pages to the html pages, and then to the shop page.

Now, onto your questions:

Question #1: Yes, this is possible and quite normal. You can connect your websites through internal links and create a seamless user experience.

Question #2: What you're describing is not exactly a multisite, but rather a network of interconnected sites. A multisite is when you have multiple websites that share a single WordPress installation and database.

Question #3: To give a person access to all the sites in the network, you can use a plugin like the WordPress Multisite User Sync plugin. This will allow users to register on one site and be automatically registered on all other sites in the network.

To include additional sites, I suggest using subdomains such as shop.example.com and html.example.com while keeping the main site on example.com. This approach eliminates the need to place sites in subdirectories for security reasons, allowing all sites to reside in separate directories.

With regard to user data, I recommend utilizing the method of authorization and registration of WP for the main site on all others since it is on WP. For a simpler solution, a multisite from WordPress can also be used.

It's worth noting that using subdomains can enhance the organization and management of multiple sites, making it easier to assign unique URLs and track visitor data. Additionally, a multisite approach can save time and resources by allowing for centralized updates and maintenance across all sites.

If necessary, and only if necessary, it is possible to configure the server settings to specify which URLs on which engines will undergo further processing. Such a solution relies heavily on techniques. Addressing registration concerns, a possible strategy is to facilitate data transfer between sites through an intermediary script.

However, determining registered users becomes more complex under such conditions. This could be done by creating a shared view or storing cookies from both systems. Nevertheless, this kind of approach can be considered a "crutch" and thus should only be adopted in urgent cases.

As for my personal thoughts on the matter, I believe that while such workarounds may be necessary at times, they should never be the go-to solution. Instead, we should strive to find more permanent and robust solutions to our technical problems.

It may not be the norm, but it is feasible. Ultimately, the hosting and domain belong to you, so configure them as you see fit. Consider creating separate subdomains for distinct purposes.

Each page of the website should appear as one unified entity, despite being composed of multiple pages.

To streamline the process, focus on selecting a particular database and framework for user storage, and integrate all other elements into it. Keep in mind that this process involves programming rather than design.

Question #4: Yes, it is possible to have different themes for each website in the network. In WordPress, you can activate different themes for each site, allowing them to have their own unique design and layout.

Question #5: To add a shop to your WordPress website, you can use a plugin like WooCommerce. It integrates seamlessly with WordPress and provides all the necessary features for setting up an online store on your website.

Question #6: It is possible to create a separate database for the shop if you want to keep it separate from the WordPress installation. This can be done during the installation process of the shop software, like Opencart, where you can specify the database details.

Question #8: If you decide to host both your WordPress and shop websites on the same server, you can simply upload the WordPress files to the WordPress folder and the Opencart files to the shop folder within your domain's file directory. Make sure to configure the necessary settings for each website, such as the database details and domain mappings.

Question #9: If you choose to host the WordPress and shop websites on different servers, you will need to point the domain to the respective server IP addresses or use DNS records to redirect the traffic to the correct server. This can be done through the domain registrar or DNS management tools.

Question #10: To ensure smooth navigation between the different pages and websites, you can link them together using anchor tags and URL paths. For example, you can set up links in WordPress pages pointing to your HTML pages, and links in the HTML pages pointing to your shop page. This way, users can easily navigate through the different sections of your website.

Question #11: It is important to note that when hosting multiple websites on the same domain, it is crucial to organize your files and URLs properly to avoid conflicts or broken links. You can use subdirectories or subdomains to differentiate the websites and keep everything organized.

Question #12: Lastly, remember to regularly update the WordPress plugins, themes, and Opencart software to ensure they are running on the latest versions with all the security patches. This will help keep your website(s) secure and protected from potential vulnerabilities.

Question #13: Regarding the SEO aspect of having multiple interconnected websites, it is important to consider proper site structure and URL organization. Ensure that each website has unique and descriptive URLs, titles, and meta tags to optimize search engine visibility and user experience.

Question #14: Additionally, you may want to set up proper redirects if there are any changes in URL structure or if you decide to merge or move pages between websites. This will help maintain search engine rankings and ensure that visitors are seamlessly redirected to the correct pages.

Question #15: It is also beneficial to have a consistent design and branding across all your websites. This helps create a cohesive user experience and strengthens your brand identity. Consider using similar colors, fonts, logos, and navigation menus across your websites.

Question #16: In terms of maintenance and updates, make sure to regularly monitor and update all the components of your websites, including WordPress, Opencart, plugins, themes, and security measures. Keeping everything up to date will help enhance performance, security, and compatibility.

Question #17: Lastly, consider implementing caching and optimization techniques to improve website speed and loading times. This can be achieved through plugins or server-level configurations, which can greatly enhance user experience and SEO rankings.
