It's important to note that while formal education can provide a strong foundation in design theory, typography, user experience, and coding languages, many successful web designers have developed their skills through practical experience and self-study. An effective approach for aspiring web designers without a college degree may involve pursuing online courses and tutorials in areas such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and design software. Building a strong portfolio by working on personal projects, contributing to open-source initiatives, or collaborating with local businesses can also demonstrate one's abilities to potential employers or clients.

Additionally, staying updated with industry best practices, attending relevant workshops and conferences, and seeking out feedback from experienced professionals can further enhance one's design skills and marketability. Ultimately, dedication, a proactive approach to learning, and a commitment to excellence are key attributes for success in the field of web design, regardless of one's educational background.

I can confidently say that it is indeed possible to pursue a career in web design, but there are numerous factors and considerations that can impact the success of this endeavor.

The primary question to consider is the scope and complexity of the design work. Web design can encompass various levels of complexity and responsibility:

1) Creating components for larger projects such as feedback forms, user accounts, and shopping carts.
2) Developing landing pages and single-page websites using template editors.
3) Designing comprehensive, complex websites.

These are just a few examples of the options available in web design.

In the first scenario, one could start as an intern in a team, studio, or agency, being exposed to routine tasks to gain insight into the processes and collaboration among various stakeholders such as customers, designers, layout designers, and developers.

The second option offers more independence, allowing individuals to lead their own projects, but it requires a strong portfolio, proficiency in design software, understanding of web development processes, and staying updated with industry trends.

The third example involves advanced expertise and experience, including knowledge in back-end and front-end development, making it challenging for beginners to undertake without substantial experience and education.

Having a portfolio is essential for both employment and project acquisition, demonstrating capabilities and skills. A well-crafted resume highlighting software proficiency is also crucial, although employers often require candidates to complete a test task to evaluate their skills.

Web design goes beyond creating visual elements; it involves user interaction, understanding human behavior, and utilizing programming languages such as HTML and CSS. Hence, continuous self-education through books and online courses focused on web design (UX design) is highly beneficial.

While formal education or work experience are valuable, online courses from reputable institutions can provide valuable opportunities, although securing employment or internships after completing these courses may be challenging due to high competition.

Based on my experience, only a small percentage of individuals secure jobs after completing online courses, typically those with a strong background and previous relevant experience. In reality, about 10% of course graduates successfully enter the field of design.

I can attest that like any other profession, achieving excellence requires hard work. Whether with 9, 11, or higher grades of education, one can aspire to become a professional designer. However, without a solid foundation from reputable universities or quality courses, the journey may be more challenging. There is a scarcity of truly valuable courses available.

It's essential to master the fundamentals and build a strong base for further development. Competition in the field is fierce, yet there remains a shortage of skilled web designers, especially due to the growing demand for remote work.

My advice for aspiring web designers:

- Immerse yourself in others' work, reviews, references, and collections to refine your taste.
- Master design tools such as Photoshop, Figma, XD, and related software like Illustrator and After Effects. Understanding these tools is crucial, and knowledge of After Effects and Illustrator has greatly benefitted my work.
- Dive into design theory, including typography, color theory, grids, logic of structure, and navigation. Building a strong theoretical foundation is key to creative freedom.
- Develop sales and communication skills. Web design is not just about creating visually appealing sites; it's also about understanding business, marketing, and effective client communication.

It may seem daunting, but it's an incredibly rewarding field. The key is to be passionate about what you do, and success will follow. Build a portfolio, showcase your work, and embark on the journey to find clients.

What's more important is having the right skills and knowledge to succeed in the field. If you're interested in becoming a web designer, focus on learning the fundamentals of web design, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and design principles. You can learn these skills through online courses, tutorials, and certifications.

Additionally, gain experience by building personal projects, participating in design communities, and networking with other professionals in the industry. Consider freelancing or interning with a design firm to gain hands-on experience and build your portfolio. With dedication and hard work, you can become a successful web designer without a college degree.
