Graphic design is a multifaceted field, with fewer technical issues from the standpoint of principles and structures. Personal taste often plays a significant role, as perception of design elements varies among individuals. However, deeper knowledge of design principles and the printing industry is required for creating materials such as magazines or books. This also applies to one-time posters and flyers. Despite being relatively easier compared to web design, graphic design presents its own set of challenges.

Illustration, on the other hand, requires exceptional drawing skills. Finding employment can be challenging, as companies often seek illustrators with specific styles. Understanding how colors appear on screen versus in printed form is also important for illustrators.

Design is not as straightforward as it may initially appear. While creating web banners or YouTube channel covers can be a starting point, these avenues may have limited growth potential. It is essential to recognize the complexities and nuances within the design industry when considering a career in this field.

As an interface designer, my work involves following rules, iterating through various options, and even implementing algorithms. When communicating tasks to developers, I often describe algorithms in natural language, which they then translate into programming language. Understanding the workings and limitations of the web is essential for me, as it helps determine what can be easily and quickly implemented and what is more challenging and time-consuming. Essentially, an interface designer combines engineering and creative aspects.

It's important to note that if the technical aspect of engineering is not appealing, choosing illustration might be a better fit. Illustration allows for more creativity, although commercial illustration may be limited in popular styles. However, there are now opportunities for independent artists to thrive through platforms like NFT, Patreon, Boosty, and social networks such as TikTok, offering avenues for 100% artistic development.

On the other hand, if coding is the main source of frustration rather than the entire engineering component, UX/UI design skills are highly sought after, especially for designers with knowledge of development basics.

In any case, my advice would be to focus on developing skills in a niche that offers long-term interest rather than solely chasing higher salaries. Becoming a world-class specialist requires daily development over a significant period. An average specialist in a sought-after field will likely achieve greater success than an excellent specialist in a less sought-after one.
