How much does the domain zone affect the ranking of the site?

Is it advisable to host the English version of a website on the .fr domain meant for French content? The website already exists in French and it is planned to launch an English version.

The question arises whether to host the English version on the existing .fr domain or create a new .com domain. As the target audience for the English version is not limited to France, hosting it on a .com domain might be a better option.

The domain zone does not impact the ranking of a website from an SEO perspective. However, if the website is being marketed towards an English audience, it's better to have it hosted on a domain with a .com or a .net extension as they are more familiar to the local people.

It would seem strange to see a Vietnamese or Korean domain name appear in French search results, even with the website translated into French. This is because the domain name might not be easily recognizable to the French audience and can lead to a drop in user trust and engagement.

There are various factors that impact site traffic, including organic and inorganic output. While advertising output is dependent on the number of attachments and impressions, organic output is more complex and entails optimization of the website to comply with search engine ranking algorithms.

In the past, purchasing external anchor and non-anchor links would suffice for promoting a website. However, with changes in search engine ranking algorithms, behavioral factors are also taken into consideration. This includes how often users visit the website, their interaction with certain pages and how understandable and important the information is to them.

Having an appropriate domain name can significantly enhance the user experience and improve behavioral factors. A thematic domain in the .fr zone is beneficial as it indicates the website belongs to a specific topic. Additionally, having an easy-to-remember domain name and a secure HTTPS connection through an SSL certificate can increase the chances of being ranked higher in organic output. These are just a few basic strategies that can improve site traffic and show results in a short period.

The previous conversation presented two options of either hosting the English version on the .fr domain or using the .com domain. However, a third option is to create a .com subdomain that redirects to the English version, which is similar to the first option. This can be done through an extension for WordPress and creating a personal account with subdomain hosting.

When it comes to traffic, having both English and French versions of the website can increase traffic. However, it's important to ensure the SEO optimization of the new pages, otherwise creating a subdomain may not be beneficial.

Yes, hosting the English version of a website on a .com domain would generally be a better option if the target audience is not limited to France. The .fr domain is specifically intended for French content and may not be the most appropriate choice for an English version. A .com domain is more internationally recognized and can help reach a wider audience. Additionally, having separate domains for different languages can make it easier for users to find the appropriate version of the website based on their language preference.

Here are a few additional factors to consider when deciding whether to host the English version of a website on the .fr domain or create a new .com domain:

1. Brand Consistency: If maintaining consistent branding across languages is important for your website, using a separate .com domain for the English version can help ensure brand consistency and recognition.

2. SEO Benefits: Hosting the English version on a .com domain can potentially provide better search engine optimization (SEO) benefits. Generic top-level domains like .com are often favored by search engines and can improve the visibility of your website in search results.

3. Language Targeting: Using separate domains can allow you to target specific languages more effectively. For example, you can use country-specific subdomains or directories to indicate language preferences (e.g., en.yourwebsite.fr for the English version hosted on the .fr domain).

4. User Experience: Having separate domains for different languages can provide a more seamless and tailored user experience. Visitors will be automatically directed to the appropriate language version based on their geographic location or language preference.

5. Technical Considerations: Depending on your website's structure, hosting multiple language versions on the same domain may require additional technical implementation, such as language selectors or subdirectories. These factors should be taken into account when deciding on the best approach.
