Can you share your preference for SSL certificate protection levels? Additionally, do you have any insight on SGC SSL technology and its significance in SSL certificates?

As for my personal opinion, I believe that the level of protection offered by SSL certificates is crucial for ensuring secure online transactions and data protection. It's important to carefully consider the type of SSL certificate and its features when selecting one for your website or online business.


1. Essential SSL certificate - the most demanded among others. All that is required is ownership of the domain name.

2. Instant SSL certificate. Requires rights to a domain, registration of a company or a specific person.

3. SGC SSL certificate is similar to the previous one, but includes support for 40-bit extensions. (required for older OS and browsers).

4. Regular wildcard - also a regular certificate, but issued for the entire system of subdomains of the main domain. (, and others)

5. EV - Extended Validation Certificate - used exclusively by legal entities. The company's ownership of the domain is checked, as well as notarized translations of documents into English. Requires confirmation by someone else.


SGC certificates enhance the encryption level in visitors' browsers during secure sessions on a website, upgrading it from 40/56 bits to 128/256 bits. By doing so, SGC certificates enable providing standard encryption for all visitors, including those with older or non-standard browsers. It is crucial to upgrade encryption using SGC certificates for visitors using specific browser versions like Internet Explorer export versions 3.02 to 5.5 and Netscape export versions 4.02 to 4.72.

Also, Windows 2000 systems without Microsoft's High Encryption Pack or Service Pack 2 updates before March 2001 require encryption upgrade. Notably, SSL certificates aren't capable of providing 128-bit encryption for Internet Explorer versions below 3.02 and Netscape versions below 4.02.


SSL certificates can be categorized based on the number of domains and subdomains they can secure. There are three types—DV, OV, and EV SSL—that differ in the level of validation and verification required before issuance. Domain-validation (DV) SSL certificates only confirm domain ownership and provide encryption during data transmission.

It is typically issued quickly and is suitable for individuals or organizations. Organization-validation (OV) SSL requires additional verification of a company's phone numbers and provides details about the organization owning the site. Extended-validation (EV) SSL involves in-depth verification of the company's tax and commercial activities, and it displays the company name next to the URL.

 While DV SSL certificates are free, reissuing them may incur charges. It may not be adequate for sites in the financial sector, but it is a good starting point to test the service and save costs in the first year of use.
