DNS Setup for Online Store

Folks, I need your assistance. I may not have the blonde hair, but I'm struggling to find the necessary information, perhaps I'm not approaching it correctly.

I was provided with a pre-built online store from a company with a complex and lengthy 4th-level domain. However, they stated that I could link my own store there. They even gave instructions, but they were quite brief.

2. Set up a link on your DNS hosting: three changes are required in the DNS control panel

create A records that will be directed to:

8x.2x.2xx.xx

8x.2x.2xx.xx

8x.2x.2xx.xx

3. In the online store's personal account, you must specify an "Additional website address"

The third step is clear, but the first one is a complete mystery to me. Where are these A records that need to be modified? I have my domains with one registrar, and my hosting is in another location, but I understand that this is entirely irrelevant.

The hosting provider has a panel. I created a subdomain there, shop.xхxxx.com, and I'm unsure of what to do next.

If it's not too much trouble, could you please guide me on where this configuration should be done?

The key here is to understand the relationship between your domain, DNS, and the pre-built online store provided by the company. Let me break it down step-by-step:

1. Domain and DNS Management:
  - The A records you need to create are part of your domain's Domain Name System (DNS) configuration, which is the underlying infrastructure that translates human-readable domain names (like your-domain.com) into the IP addresses that computers use to communicate on the internet.
  - The DNS settings for your domain are typically managed through your domain registrar's control panel, which is the platform you used to purchase and register your domain name.
  - It's important to note that the location of your domains and hosting is irrelevant in this case. Even if your domains are registered with one provider and your hosting is with another, the DNS settings are the key factor you'll need to address.
  - To begin, log in to your domain registrar's account and locate the DNS management section. This is where you'll create the A records as per the instructions provided by the company.

2. A Record Configuration:
  - An A record (Address record) is a type of DNS record that maps a domain or subdomain (like shop.your-domain.com) to a specific IP address.
  - In this case, you'll need to create three separate A records, each pointing to the IP addresses provided by the company: 8x.2x.2xx.xx, 8x.2x.2xx.xx, and 8x.2x.2xx.xx.
  - To create these A records, you'll typically find an option in your domain registrar's DNS management section to "Add a new record" or "Manage DNS records."
  - When creating the A records, you'll need to specify the subdomain (e.g., shop.your-domain.com) and the corresponding IP address (8x.2x.2xx.xx, 8x.2x.2xx.xx, or 8x.2x.2xx.xx) for each record.
  - After adding these A records, your domain or subdomain (e.g., shop.your-domain.com) will be linked to the pre-built online store provided by the company.

3. Additional Website Address:
  - The third step, where you need to specify an "Additional website address" in the online store's personal account, is a configuration option within the pre-built online store's administration panel or dashboard.
  - This is likely a setting or field where you can enter the domain or subdomain you've set up in the previous step (e.g., shop.your-domain.com).
  - By adding the domain or subdomain to the "Additional website address" field, you're essentially telling the pre-built online store to recognize and integrate with your custom domain.

The key to success in this process is ensuring that your domain's DNS settings are correctly configured to point to the IP addresses provided by the company. This establishes the necessary link between your custom domain and the pre-built online store, allowing you to seamlessly integrate your own domain with the provided e-commerce solution.

When dealing with domain name system (DNS) management, if you haven't modified the DNS settings provided by your hosting provider, the responsibility likely lies with your domain registrar (who often offer this service for free).
The most straightforward approach is to submit a support ticket to your registrar, requesting they update the A record for your domain.

Crafting domain names with functional DNS is a delicate art that requires a thoughtful approach. While the specifics of DNS management may seem obscure, the end result can make all the difference in the online presence of a brand or business.

In my experience, the key to a seamless subdomain deployment lies not in waiting for lengthy DNS propagation, but rather in proactively configuring the necessary records. By taking a strategic, design-focused perspective, I've found that the subdomain can be made operational immediately, without the need for lengthy delays.

Check your hosting provider's control panel. Most use cPanel, Plesk, or similar. Look for 'DNS Zone Editor' or 'DNS Management'. Here, you can add new A records. Input your subdomain (shop.xхxхx.com) as the hostname/alias and the provided IP addresses. Ensure to save your changes and wait for propagation, which can take up to 48 hours.
