Title: Porkbun vs Cloudflare vs Sav vs Namesilo
Post by: Akisingh on Mar 16, 2023, 07:24 AM
I am looking for a suitable registrar for my several active domain names. Currently, the domain cost is $8.97 + 0.18, and in September 2023, it will be $9.59 + 0.18.

Now, I have been using Namesilo for many years, but .com domains have become almost $2 more expensive, so I am considering giving it up.

However, I have noticed that the recording sometimes slows down, and there have been errors on their website and in the information provided. Additionally, the price of $9.14 makes me believe that there might be an unknown price increase in the future, which is something I want to avoid by not switching registrars.

On the other hand, Minced Pork offers a good price of $9.74, and I find their site and domain options to be satisfactory.

Cloudflare, on the other hand, sells domains at cost price and ensures that you only pay what they pay the registrar for your domain. They also allow for multiple domains in Sedo DNS. However, I am hesitant to rely solely on one registrar, as I fear my account could be blocked for a DDOS attack or excessive bandwidth.

In conclusion, I believe Minced Pork would be the best choice for me. What are your thoughts?

As for my own input, I would like to add that choosing a domain registrar is an important decision, as it can affect the performance and security of your websites. It's crucial to consider factors such as price, reliability, and customer support when making this choice.

Porkbun's pricing is the best, but it has significantly increased over a span of 5 years. The platform's interface is user-friendly and offers a wide range of useful options.

SAV is my current favorite due to their decision to no longer attach expired domains to your account, unlike Porkbun. Everything seems much simpler with SAV. However, their customer support lacks friendliness and often provides confusing explanations. They have a tendency to block accounts when market orders are not processed properly, but this issue seems to stem from their buggy middleware or payment processor. I had a couple of valuable complaints that received no support whatsoever. All they consistently asked for was a picture of my ID card, a request I didn't fulfill for various reasons. Surprisingly, after ignoring this, my Marketplace account was restored.

Despite this, I still have reservations about trusting them entirely, especially after learning about the owner's questionable practices in taking over client domains.

While we are open to paying slightly more, it is crucial for us to have assurance that everything can be controlled effectively.

It seems like you have carefully compared three domain registrars: Namesilo, Minced Pork, and Cloudflare.

Namesilo has been your current registrar, but you've experienced some issues with their website and information accuracy. Additionally, the price increase you anticipate raises concerns about potential future increases.

Minced Pork offers a satisfactory website and domain options at a competitive price of $9.74. It seems like a reasonable choice based on your preferences.

Cloudflare stands out for selling domains at cost price and offering multiple domains in Sedo DNS. However, you are concerned about relying solely on one registrar due to the risk of account blocking in case of a DDOS attack or excessive bandwidth usage.

Considering all these factors, Minced Pork appears to be well-suited for your needs. However, it's always a good idea to do further research and read reviews from other users before making a final decision.

additional considerations to keep in mind when choosing a domain registrar:

1. Customer Support: Check if the registrar provides reliable and responsive customer support. This can be crucial if you encounter any issues or need assistance with your domain names.

2. Security Features: Look for registrars that offer strong security measures like two-factor authentication, domain lock, and DNSSEC. These features can help protect your domains from unauthorized access and ensure the integrity of your website.

3. Domain Management Tools: Evaluate the ease of use and functionality of the registrar's domain management interface. Ensure it provides features like easy domain transfers, DNS management, and WHOIS privacy options.

4. Additional Services: Consider if the registrar offers additional services like website hosting or email services. Having multiple services bundled together can simplify your setup and management processes.

5. Reputation and Reviews: Research the reputation of the registrar by reading reviews and checking their track record in the industry. Look for any red flags or recurring complaints that may indicate potential issues.

I'd caution against switching to Minced Pork. Their lesser-known status raises questions about their long-term reliability and customer support. Namesilo's price increase is frustrating, but their proven track record and robust features make them a safer bet.

As for Cloudflare, their account suspension policy is alarming, especially for high-traffic domains. Stick with Namesilo for registration and consider using a dedicated DNS provider like AWS Route 53 or Google Cloud DNS for better control and redundancy.
