Domain Sales: What Am I Doing Wrong?

I've been involved in the domain industry since 1998. Back then, most of my sales were made through direct contacts via the Whois database and a few emails or phone calls.

I tried listing domains on Sedo in the past, but apart from receiving extremely low offers, I never managed to sell a domain through them.

In early 2021, I decided to list several domains registered with GoDaddy on their listings page, and to my surprise, one of them sold for a five-figure sum. I hadn't even intended to ask that much for it, and I had actually forgotten about it, but someone was willing to pay.

This sale motivated me, and I started parking and listing all my domains with different platforms like GoDaddy, DAN, and Sedo. Despite having some really good domain names, I'm not getting any traction or interest.

I keep seeing posts about sold domains, and I can't seem to understand what I'm doing wrong.

Who would you recommend as the best place to list domains for sale?

Thank you all for any advice and input!

When it comes to listing domains for sale, it's important to understand that different platforms cater to diverse audiences and may vary in terms of effectiveness based on the specific characteristics of your domain portfolio.

Given your success with GoDaddy's listings page, it's clear that certain platforms can indeed yield significant results. Building on this success, I recommend focusing on platforms that have a strong track record of successful domain sales, while also considering the potential reach and visibility they offer.

One approach could be to utilize specialized domain marketplaces such as Afternic or Sedo, which have established themselves as reputable platforms for domain transactions. These platforms often attract serious buyers and provide essential features for showcasing and marketing your domain names effectively.

Furthermore, exploring auction platforms like Namecheap and Flippa can provide additional opportunities to connect with potential buyers who are actively seeking valuable domain assets.

In addition to leveraging these platforms, consider engaging with domain-specific communities and forums, where you can not only promote your domains but also interact with potential buyers who have a genuine interest in acquiring quality domain names. Participating in discussions related to domain investments and sharing your expertise can help build credibility and generate interest in your offerings.

It's important to continuously evaluate the performance of your listings and adjust your strategy based on the feedback and results you receive. Testing different platforms, refining your listing descriptions, and utilizing effective pricing strategies can all contribute to improving the visibility and attractiveness of your domain portfolio.

By carefully selecting reputable platforms that align with your target audience, engaging with relevant communities, and continuously refining your approach based on performance data, you can maximize the potential for successful domain sales and achieve better traction in the competitive domain market.
