One of our regular customers had a problem with their site that we, the company, were also responsible for. The site had two domains: one with a dash, domain-name.com, registered to a company with lost management but had access to the registrar website, and another without a dash, domainname.com, which we controlled and was registered but not linked.

As a solution, I suggested gluing the two domains, assigning the domain without a dash as the main domain to transfer the search weight of the uncontrolled domain to ours. The customer agreed but wrote that the domain-name.com should remain the main domain "for now." Unfortunately, the registrar reset the domain, and the customer now blames us for losing the site with a loss of new customers and business reputation.

Upon reviewing our correspondence archive, I found that I had warned the customer about their wrong decision and possible consequences, but they ignored my suggestion. It's crucial to make informed decisions regarding domain registration and management to avoid future risks.

It's essential to remember that people make mistakes and may not be professionals, so it's crucial as an expert in your field to be competent. However, the method of persuasion may vary. In case of a post, the domain registrar can usually be identified.

Lately, there has been a trend of massive validation of the legal entities who own domain names. If the LLC is no longer in operation, then the domain is separated safely, even before the paid period ends. Unfortunately, these domains are being sold on a store at a high price of $100.

It's a shame that some companies take advantage of this situation, but it's also important to ensure that all legal documents and registrations are up to date to avoid losing domains or facing similar issues.

There have been several cases where clients do not renew their domain registration, leading to loss of the domain. One such case involved a client who had a website designed and bought their domain, while we hosted the site, with payment due every quarter. However, the "image" component of the site went unused and neglected.

Three years later, the client realized that their site wasn't working, upon investigation, they discovered that their domain had expired and had been partitioned for a long time. The client was angry about our supposed incompetence despite us having nothing to do with the domain's registration. Fortunately, we were able to resolve the issue, although at the cost of buying back the domain from an outbidder for ten times the original cost of registration for ten years.

It's important to ensure all aspects of website development, hosting, and domain registration are up-to-date to avoid similar issues. Additionally, communication is key in ensuring that clients understand the scope of services you provide and what is outside of your responsibilities.

It's important to configure multiple domains correctly if they're all related to one company. From personal experience, there are simple rules to follow.

If twin domains lead to sites with different content, search engines will treat them as separate sites, which shouldn't pose any indexing or promotion problems. The only hurdle would arise if the same contact details such as phone numbers and addresses appeared on various sites, leading to complaints from competitors through Google's complaint service.

Domains hosting sites with similar content would be grouped together. However, some might be downgraded in search results, and there is a chance that the primary domain name would also face issues. To avoid this, all setup should be done right away.

If several domains should display the same site, it's essential to create one website on the primary domain and redirect from the rest.

By adhering to these rules, companies can reduce the risk from cybersquatters and avoid losing traffic to competitors. It's always necessary to optimize and configure multiple domains correctly to avoid any future complications.

In this situation, it is clear that there were some misunderstandings and miscommunications between your company and the customer regarding domain registration and management.

To provide further insight, it seems that the customer initially agreed to your suggestion of assigning the domain without a dash as the main domain. However, they also requested that the domain with a dash remain the main domain "for now." Unfortunately, the registrar reset the domain, resulting in the loss of the website. As a result, the customer is now blaming your company for the negative impact on their business, including the loss of new customers and damage to their reputation.

Upon reviewing your correspondence archive, you discovered that you had warned the customer about the potential risks and consequences of their decision. Despite your warnings, the customer chose to ignore your suggestions and went ahead with their preferred approach.

It is important for both companies and customers to carefully consider the implications of their decisions regarding domain registration and management. This includes understanding the ownership and control of domains, the impact on search engine ranking and traffic, and the potential risks involved. Clear and open communication is crucial throughout the process to avoid any misunderstandings or regrets in the future.

In situations like these, it may be beneficial to have thorough documentation of all discussions and agreements between your company and the customer. This can help protect your company's interests and provide evidence of the warnings and advice you provided.
