Title: Dynadot: Domain name is being released
Post by: debbiec12323 on Sep 18, 2022, 08:44 AM
I was unable to retrieve the information from the website. Several days ago, I placed a backorder for a domain name that piqued my interest, but I had to abandon it last night. The domain was dropped and intercepted by Dynadot, yet it is now registered to someone else. This raises the question of how this happened without an auction. Who will win if multiple people put in a backorder?
I am uncertain of the registrar's logic. Is it possible that Dynadot's interception service is inferior even to manual registration?

I currently have over 18 applications for various NNN, LLLL domains, primarily for experimental purposes to determine how many domains Dynadot actually intercepts and sends to auction. In the past, I relied on reviews to guide my decisions, and I was aware that Dynadot's backorder process typically trailed behind snapnames, namebright, and pheenix in terms of performance, but still outranked GoDaddy.

While their API sometimes outperforms their service, it is still not as effective as the top three services. It appears that the current owner knowingly acquired the domain using dropcatch interception and was familiar with its specificities. It is likely that they used the API instead of Dynadot's service on the website, which may be due to the domain's zone requirements, as suggested by pegs.

It is fascinating to consider how the acquisition of domain names has become such a complex and competitive market, with various services and strategies employed to gain an advantage. Companies like Dynadot and dropcatch play a significant role in this market, and it is essential for consumers to understand their options and limitations when attempting to acquire a specific domain.

Non-traditional domain zones have their unique characteristics and, in my opinion, lack the high demand of traditional gTLDs, resulting in a different scope of interest. I suspect the registrar does not continually contact the .co-registry but rather periodically checks whois to register any released domains. If competing backorders are present, Dynadot prioritizes them first, leaving a chance for other backorders to succeed. However, if there is no competition, the concept of luck becomes irrelevant.

It is fascinating how the world of domain names is always evolving, with trends shifting from traditional gTLDs to more niche and innovative domain zones. As new types of domains become available, companies and consumers alike must adapt to the changing market and explore new strategies to acquire their desired domains. Additionally, the role of registrars and interceptors like Dynadot and dropcatch remains crucial, even as the domain name industry undergoes constant change.

When it comes to registration, Dynadot is lacking in many zones, and the available prices are not always the lowest. However, these limitations are often influenced by the unique characteristics of the specific domain zones, with some themes offering more attractive prices. While I have found some appealing options, the cheaper choices were not suitable for my needs. I do recommend Dynadot for wholesale purchases, as buying in bulk can be quite profitable if the costs exceed $5,000 per year.

The process of registering a domain name can be complex and time-consuming, especially when considering the cost and availability of various domain zones. It is essential to carefully consider each option and factor in any unique requirements or restrictions associated with the specific zone. In some cases, it may be beneficial to purchase multiple domains in advance, particularly if they align with your business or personal goals. By taking a strategic approach to domain name registration, individuals and companies can effectively establish their online presence and make a lasting impression on their target audience.

When it comes to backorders and domain name registrations, the process can vary depending on the specific registrar and their policies. In general, if multiple people place backorders on the same domain name, there may be an auction process where the highest bidder wins the domain. However, this can also depend on the registrar's specific procedures.

It's possible that in the case you mentioned, the domain name was registered by someone else without going through an auction process or Dynadot's interception service. This could be due to various reasons, such as the domain being registered by the previous owner before it was dropped or other factors related to the domain registration process.

To get a better understanding of the situation and to address your specific concerns about Dynadot's interception service or backorder process, I recommend reaching out to Dynadot directly. They should be able to provide you with more information and clarification based on their internal procedures and policies.

If a domain you backordered is suddenly registered to someone else without an auction, it suggests a flaw in their domain management logic. In competitive situations, a registrar should ideally facilitate a fair auction process for those interested.
If Dynadot's interception service is outpaced by manual registration, it may not be the best choice for serious domain investors. It's essential to evaluate whether their service aligns with your needs or if you should explore more reliable registrars.
