I want to sign up for a domain that includes a direct word with a demand of 300k each month. As usual, the extensions .com, .net, and .org are all occupied. Available options include .BIZ, .INFO, .MOBI, .CO, and .ME.

Could you suggest if .CO might be good?

The .CO extension has gained popularity over the last few years and is often seen as a nice alternative to the traditional .COM. The main reason for this is its association with "company" or "corporation," which makes it attractive for businesses and startups.

When you pick .CO, you also might benefit from the fact that it's easier to find a short and memorable name because there are less competition compared to .COM or .NET extensions. Plus, it can give your brand a modern and tech-savvy image that appeals to a younger audience. However, I would recommend considering your target market and how they might perceive the .CO domain. Some people still might think of it as less credible than the traditional extensions.

It's also critical to keep in mind that .CO domains are often confused with .COM. Users might accidentally type .COM when searching for your website, which could lead them to a competitor if they have the .COM of that domain. It's a risk you should weigh out considering your market niche.

SEO-wise, search engines do not penalize .CO domains inherently; thus, as long as you're implementing good SEO practices, your site could rank well. However, being in a hyper-competitive niche with a word that has 300k searches, the domain extension might not be as big of a factor as quality content and backlinks.
.CO could be a good option if you ensure your overall branding strategy supports it, while also considering the potential confusion it may create with .COM. Be sure to think about your long-term goals and how a .CO might impact them.

I like to go with this:

- COM, and even COMs in multiple,
- other extensions if they fit the content well.

I've noticed that CO domains tend to be a bit off and don't feel right for professional use. It's important to pick a domain that resonates with site's purpose.

I've noticed that .COM domains hold more value, even when their keywords aren't as unique.

Moreover, since .CO is specific to Colombia, its effectiveness might vary based on the location.

Personally, I believe opting for a .COM is still the wisest choice.

However, if you desire a clean and simple domain, you could always grab both, using a redirect from your .CO to your .COM. This way, you can enjoy the best of both worlds while meeting your audience in a more friendly way.
