I'm considering how to price my .io domain names compared to .com or .net domains, all of which are popular for tech companies. There are many AI-related names available, such as AICloud.com, AiCloud.io, and AiCloud.net. While I don't own these names and don't know what sellers are asking for them, all three TLDs are appropriate for a tech firm or website.

Assuming that these and other TLDs are already taken, what value would you attribute to .io and .net in comparison to .com? Of course, there are many factors involved and it depends on how important the name is to the company. This is a very general discussion.

Please note that I do not believe that the annual cost of a .io TLD is an issue for any serious company. An additional $30 per year is insignificant.

Any thoughts on this topic are appreciated.

As for additional input, it is worth noting that .io domains are particularly popular among tech startups due to their association with input/output and the technological connotations of the acronym. Additionally, .net domains are often used by network infrastructure providers and internet service providers.
While .com is the most well-known and widely used TLD, these alternatives offer unique branding opportunities depending on the industry and focus of the company.

If I were to sell a .io domain name, I believe it is more reasonable to determine its price based on the reported sales of other .io domains rather than using the prices of equivalent .com or .net domains.
In my opinion, presenting comparable .io sales to potential buyers is a more effective approach to selling .io domain names.

I can say that pricing domain names can be tricky and depend on various factors such as domain length, keyword popularity, and extension. However, using reported sales of similar domain names in the same extension can be a helpful reference point for determining a fair price.

In the case of tech companies, especially those focused on AI and cloud computing, the choice of domain extension can play a significant role in shaping the brand identity and perception. The .com domain is undoubtedly the most established and widely recognized, often seen as the default choice for businesses across various industries. However, the .io domain has gained popularity within the tech startup community due to its association with input/output and its technological connotations. This makes it a compelling option for companies looking to convey innovation and technical expertise.

When determining the value of a .io domain compared to a .com domain, I would consider factors such as market demand, brand differentiation, and online visibility. The uniqueness and distinctiveness of a .io domain in the tech space can make it an attractive choice for companies aiming to stand out in a crowded marketplace. Additionally, the perceived scarcity of high-quality .io domains, especially those relevant to AI and cloud computing, may contribute to their perceived value.

As for .net domains, their historical association with network infrastructure and internet service providers can still hold relevance in certain contexts. While .net may not carry the same level of branding impact as .com or the technical association of .io, it can be a sensible choice for companies emphasizing their network-centric offerings or connectivity solutions.
The value attributed to .io and .net domains in comparison to .com will depend on the specific branding and marketing objectives of the company. It's important to consider the domain extension as an integral part of the overall brand identity and to assess its potential impact on brand recognition, online positioning, and customer perception. A comprehensive domain name strategy should align with the company's business goals and resonate with its target audience, ensuring that the chosen domain extension enhances the brand's digital presence and reinforces its unique value proposition.
