Title: .de vs. gTLD. Pros and Cons
Post by: gaxyledge on Dec 01, 2024, 01:24 AM
Hey team, let's evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of using .de versus gTLDs like .net, .com, and .info for a serious investment project.

Which option is more suitable for a professional venture where funds are at stake?

The niche is clean, and the website is targeted towards a German audience.

When it comes to .de, the benefits are fairly straightforward. However, what unique perks do gTLDs offer, aside from the ability to secure a relevant keyword that might be either unavailable or pricey in the .de domain?

For a serious investment project targeting a German audience, using a.de domain is a natural choice. However, gTLDs like.net,.com, and.info can also be viable options. While.de offers a clear connection to the target audience, gTLDs provide the flexibility to choose a more memorable or descriptive domain name.
Moreover, gTLDs can be a good choice if the desired.de domain is unavailable or too expensive.

I recommend registering both.de and.com domains and setting them up as a "domain pair" (a.k.a. "domain duet") to create a seamless user experience. This way, users can easily recognize and remember the domain name without any confusion.

.DE is the primary domain for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes, while.com serves as a backup in case the Russian site experiences any issues or is blocked. The other zones can be left to "park" (i.e., remain inactive) for now, as these two are sufficient for our needs.

In terms of promotion, having both domains doesn't significantly impact our online presence, as we're not a giant like Google. By having a solid domain pair, we can ensure our online reputation remains strong and our users can easily find us online.

The thematic relevance of a domain is crucial in establishing a strong online presence. Essentially, the domain's niche can significantly influence its marketability and SEO performance.

When you're building your brand, securing both the .de and .com extensions is highly recommended, as it enhances your credibility and protects your intellectual property. Other TLDs can be considered as your project evolves, but these two should be your primary focus right from the start.
