I have been approached with a project involving a website in the FR zone. The client is interested in acquiring the com, eu, and several national domains for this website.
Additionally, they are considering obtaining org, pro, and info domains at the same time. The question arises: Is it advisable to acquire all of these domains simultaneously, or would it be excessive?
What are the potential benefits and drawbacks of such an approach in terms of domain management and online presence?

Acquiring multiple domain extensions simultaneously can have both benefits and drawbacks. Let's start with the potential benefits. First and foremost, it allows the client to protect their brand and online identity. By securing various domain extensions such as .com, .eu, and national domains, the client can prevent competitors or malicious actors from acquiring these domains and potentially harming their brand reputation. Additionally, owning multiple domain extensions can help in creating a unified online presence, making it easier for users to find the website regardless of the domain extension they use.

On the other hand, there are drawbacks to consider. Acquiring and managing multiple domains can be costly and time-consuming. Each domain requires registration fees and ongoing maintenance, including DNS management, SSL certificate renewal, and potential trademark protection. Moreover, from a search engine optimization (SEO) standpoint, having duplicate content across multiple domains can dilute the authority and SEO value of the primary domain, leading to potential challenges in ranking and visibility.

In terms of domain management, acquiring multiple domains simultaneously adds complexity to the management process. It's essential to ensure that all domains are properly configured, renewed on time, and secured against potential security threats. Failure to do so could result in domain hijacking, downtime, or loss of brand credibility.
From an online presence perspective, acquiring multiple domains can be beneficial if the client intends to cater to a global audience or wants to preemptively secure future expansion into different markets. However, it's crucial to develop a coherent strategy for cross-linking the domains and managing the content to avoid dilution of SEO value and user confusion.

I would say that if the project has substantial value and potential, then it would definitely be advisable to consider registering the .org domain as it carries a sense of trustworthiness and credibility.

Well, if you want to achieve profit and success, it's important not to overspend on domain names, such as those ending with "clown" for entertainment websites or "info" for informational sites, or "org" for organizations.

If your website doesn't fall into any of these categories, then there's no need for those domains. Also, if you're not offering professional services as an individual, there's no need to promote yourself in that way.
