Verisign's Domain Name Industry Brief reports that domain names under management worldwide increased by 1% in Q1, with a total of 354 million names across all TLDs at the end of the period. This marks an increase of 3.5 million names since the Q4 report.

ccTLDs underwent the biggest growth, up by 2.6 million names or 2% sequentially to 135.7 million. However, this growth figure is corrected from an error in the previous report.

The .com TLD, owned by Verisign, has recovered from its dip last year, increasing by 1.1 million names sequentially to 161.6 million. Meanwhile, sister TLD .net remained flat with 13.2 million names.

New gTLDs saw a decrease of 0.6% quarter-over-quarter, with 27.3 million names in the first quarter, but have grown by 900,000 or 3.6% compared to the same period last year, according to the DNIB.

It's interesting to see that ccTLDs have undergone the most growth, while new gTLDs experienced a slight dip. The recovery of the .com TLD is also a promising development for Verisign.
