Google Registry is finally launching eight new gTLDs that it has held onto for almost ten years. The launch schedule for .foo, .zip, .mov, .nexus, .dad, .phd, .prof, and .esq will take place over the next couple of months.

Sunrise will begin this weekend, on April 2, and last for a month, followed by the Early Access Periods, which will run until May 10, when all eight gTLDs will become generally available.

It's worth keeping an eye on the .zip and .mov spaces, especially for those in the security field. These gTLDs match popular file extensions used for compressed data and videos, respectively. This could potentially create opportunities for innovation among nefarious actors on the internet, such as phishers and malware distributors.

According to Google, .zip is designated for "tying things together or moving really fast," while .mov is meant for "moving pictures and other things that move."

All of these new gTLDs are targeted at general audiences and have no registration restrictions.

Google Registry recently announced launch details for a number of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) that have been highly anticipated. These new gTLDs include .day, .meet, .foo, .soy, .meme, and .new, among others. The launch of these new gTLDs is part of an ongoing expansion of the domain name system, offering more options for businesses and individuals to create memorable and relevant website addresses.

Following the Sunrise phase, the "Early Access" phase presents an intriguing opportunity for early adopters to acquire domain names of interest before they become available to the wider public. While this phase involves an additional fee, it allows individuals and businesses to secure domain names that may have high demand, thereby providing a competitive edge in the evolving online landscape.

The general availability phase allows for open registration of the new gTLDs on a first-come, first-served basis. This phase marks the point at which the new domain extensions are accessible to the broader public, offering a wide array of options for individuals and organizations to establish their online presence with distinctive and relevant domain names.

The announcement by Google Registry also includes specific launch dates for each new gTLD, enabling stakeholders to plan their registrations effectively and ensuring transparency in the rollout process. This level of detail is valuable for those looking to leverage these new domain options for branding, marketing, and online identity purposes.
The unveiling of these launch details represents a significant milestone in the domain industry, providing insights into the structured introduction of a diverse range of new gTLDs. This move not only expands the domain name system but also underscores Google Registry's commitment to offering innovative and valuable opportunities for online branding and identity establishment.
