Markmonitor, a domain name registrar focused on brand protection, has introduced DomainDefend, a new service that helps brands secure expiring domains. The service offers trademark holders priority access to desirable domain names through an enhanced monitoring subscription program in aftermarket spaces.

The acquisition of Markmonitor by Newfold Digital last year expands the resources available to Markmonitor clients. As the second-largest domain name registrar in terms of .com domains under management, Newfold owns several large registrars including Network Solutions, Register.com, Domain.com, and BigRock. Additionally, Newfold operates NameJet and SnapNames, which are expired domain marketplaces.

I reached out to Newfold Digital to learn more about the domains that Markmonitor can assist its clients in acquiring before they enter the full expiration process. A spokesperson clarified that any domain accessible through both Newfold Expiry and Drop-catching has the potential to be available for Markmonitor customers who have approved matching criteria within the DomainDefend program.

In my opinion, companies like Microsoft and Amazon, both clients of MarkMonitor, may utilize this service to secure expiring typo domains and other domains that align with their trademarks.

A smaller competitor to MarkMonitor, GoDaddy Corporate Domains, also offers a similar service by providing clients with a fast track to address intellectual property abuse at GoDaddy. This allows them to leverage GoDaddy's retail network. With the launch of DomainDefend, Markmonitor now offers its clients value-added benefits by leveraging retail registrars as well.

Overall, the introduction of DomainDefend by Markmonitor is a significant step in assisting brand owners in securing expiring domains and protecting their valuable trademarks.

Powerful registrars often offer a range of services beyond just domain registration, such as web hosting, email hosting, security features, and website building tools. They also typically have user-friendly interfaces and robust management options for domain name settings and DNS configurations.

Expired domain marketplaces provide a platform for buying and selling domain names that are no longer actively used by their previous owners. These domains may have been allowed to expire due to neglect, business closure, or other reasons. Expired domain marketplaces often conduct auctions, where interested buyers can bid on the domain names, and the highest bidder wins the auction.

Additionally, some expired domain marketplaces offer tools to help buyers assess the value of a domain based on factors like search engine ranking, backlink profile, and historical traffic data. This information can be crucial for making informed decisions about purchasing expired domains for SEO, marketing, or investment purposes.

Some popular powerful registrars include GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, and Bluehost. These companies are known for their user-friendly interfaces, robust management options, and additional services such as web hosting, email hosting, and website building tools.

As for expired domain marketplaces, notable platforms include GoDaddy Auctions, NameJet, Sedo, and Flippa. These sites provide a marketplace for buying and selling expired domains, often with features to assess the value of domains based on factors like backlinks, traffic, and search engine ranking.

Other popular domain registrars include Bluehost, HostGator, and Network Solutions. Each of these registrars offers different packages and services to suit the specific needs of their customers. Additionally, many of these registrars also offer website building tools, SSL certificates, and other web-related services to complement their domain registration offerings.

In terms of expired domain marketplaces, Dynadot, Name.com, and DropCatch are also well-known platforms where users can bid on or purchase expired domain names. These marketplaces often provide detailed information about the domains, including traffic statistics, backlink profiles, and historical data to help buyers make informed decisions.
