GoDaddy has announced that it will begin charging a 25% commission on domains added to Afternic, Dan, or the Uni Market if customers aren't using their nameservers.

This has caused concern for domain investors who utilize their own landing pages and multiple venues, as well as those who prefer to pick and choose their transaction platform. As of February 1st, the new commission policy will take effect, which some have referred to as a "head tax".

Dan.com and Uni Market users have been hit particularly hard, as they will now be paying a higher standard commission of 15%. However, Sedo.com has stepped in to offer a solution for those frustrated by GoDaddy's recent policy change. Sedo's MLS network includes NameCheap, and their commission rates will remain at a reasonable 10% for BIN transactions, and 15% for "make offer" landers. This means that domain investors looking to sell their domains with a fixed price can avoid the higher commission rates at Dan.com by turning to Sedo instead.

Sedo is a well-established company with millions of domain names in its marketplace, offering a viable alternative for those seeking a more affordable option than GoDaddy. While Dan is still a sponsor of DomainGang until January 31st, this post represents the opinion of the author and not necessarily the views of any of the sponsors.
