DAN's surprise

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share that I just received the 5-year forum membership trophy. During my time away from domaining, I was involved in other projects.

Coincidentally, I received an offer for a parked domain on DAN, which has a sale lander displayed prominently. The initial offer was $1k, but I countered with $3400, and the buyer accepted right away.

As a result, DAN informed me that I will be receiving $2421.25.

I'm curious, does anyone still use this platform? I had anticipated this outcome when I learned that they would be acquired by GoDaddy.

This was the original purpose of DAN (formerly undeveloped.com). They primarily offer a lander with a low commission fee. Interestingly, they had no involvement in this particular sale, yet still took a 30% commission. The lead for this sale came from Bodis.

So, what has been happening recently? Are there any new alternatives available now? Is there any site that upholds the same principles as DAN used to? Anything unrelated to GoDaddy? Perhaps self-hosting is now the preferred approach?

Thank you all.

It's great to hear about your success with selling a parked domain on DAN. While I don't have specific information on the current popularity of the platform, it seems that your experience has been positive.

As for alternatives to DAN, there are several options available in the domain industry. Some popular platforms include Sedo, Afternic, and Flippa. These platforms offer similar services and could be worth exploring if you're looking for alternatives to DAN.

Additionally, self-hosting could be an option for those who prefer more control over their domain sales. By setting up your own landing page and handling negotiations independently, you have the opportunity to keep the commission fees to yourself.

It's important to note that while DAN was acquired by GoDaddy, there are still other platforms out there that operate independently and may align more closely with the principles DAN used to have.

Some alternative platforms in the domain industry:

1. Sedo: Sedo is one of the largest domain marketplaces, offering a wide range of domain buying and selling services. It provides a global platform for domain owners to connect with potential buyers and brokers.

2. Afternic: Afternic is another popular domain marketplace that facilitates domain sales and acquisitions. It offers a large inventory of domains and provides tools and resources for sellers to optimize their listings.

3. Flippa: Flippa is a marketplace for buying and selling various online assets, including domains. It enables individuals to sell their domains through auctions or direct sales, and has a wide user base, making it a potentially effective platform for domain transactions.

4. Epik: Epik is a domain registrar that also offers a marketplace for domain sales. It provides options for both traditional sales and leasing, and aims to offer competitive fees and a customer-centric approach.
