Afternic's Failure to Display BIN Price

The domain is listed with a minimum offer price, indicated by BIN (Buy It Now).

Additionally, it is parked at Afternic.

Instead of displaying a BIN button, Afternic shows a price-inquiry form.

It is unclear what the purpose of this is.

One would think that people can simply search for the domain at their preferred registrar and see the price, along with a BIN or add-to-cart button, if available.

So, why does Afternic show a price request page?

What kind of answer is the buyer expected to receive?

Is it the obvious correct answer or something contradictory?

I'm not sure if this approach is better or worse than having a "make an offer" or "contact" page.

Whom is the intended recipient of the message - Afternic or the domain owner?

Regardless, it seems illogical not to display the BIN price when the domain is listed with one.

The purpose of Afternic's price inquiry form instead of a direct Buy It Now (BIN) button is to gather information about the potential buyer and their intent before displaying the price. By asking for the buyer's information, Afternic can better understand their needs and facilitate the transaction accordingly.

The specific answer the buyer receives depends on the domain owner's settings. It could be the BIN price, a counter-offer, or more information about the domain. The intention is to provide a tailored response based on the buyer's inquiry.

This approach is designed to enhance communication between buyers and sellers, enabling negotiations and personalized interactions. It allows domain owners to provide additional details about the domain's value or negotiate a price instead of relying solely on a fixed BIN price.

While it may initially seem counterintuitive not to display the BIN price directly, the aim is to foster more engagement and opportunities for negotiation. Afternic acts as an intermediary and facilitates this process, so the intended recipients of the message are both Afternic and the domain owner.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a more personalized experience and increase the chances of a successful transaction by gathering information and allowing for negotiation rather than simply presenting a fixed price.

Afternic's price-inquiry form is a clever ploy to create a sense of exclusivity around the domain. By making buyers work for the information, Afternic is creating a sense of FOMO (fear of missing out) and encouraging buyers to take a more active role in the negotiation process.

Who doesn't love a good challenge? It's a refreshing change from the usual "add to cart" button, and it's a great way to weed out casual browsers and get serious buyers involved.
