Title: Domain Registration: No Confirmation Emails
Post by: TJHarris on Oct 17, 2023, 01:29 AM
Just a few years back, post domain registration (com, net, org), an email confirmation was mandatory via clicking a link in the mail. Failing to click the link could result in the domain being blocked after roughly a fortnight. Each initial registrar encountered expected such an email.

Now, I've registered the .info domain and surprisingly, no such email has arrived. Could it be possible that these emails have been phased out? Might it be that .info domains do not necessitate these confirmation emails? Or should I nudge the registrar to avoid the potential blocking of my domain?

There have been some changes in recent years regarding the domain registration process. ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the organization that oversees the domain name system, used to require a process called WHOIS verification. After registering or transferring a domain, an email verification was sent. If this wasn't responded to within 15 days, domains would be deactivated.

Some registrars may still choose to use a verification process, but it's no longer a universal requirement. It's possible that if you did not receive such an email after registering your .info domain, it's because your registrar no longer uses this process, or it ended up in your spam or junk folder.

To be on the safe side, you might want to:

Check your domain dashboard to ensure your contact information is correct. If there's an error in your email address, that would explain why you didn't receive a verification email.
Check your spam or junk filter.
Contact your registration service provider directly to ask about their verification policies and verify that your domain is in good standing.

Here are some possibilities why you may not have received a confirmation email when registering your domain:

Check Your Spam Folder: The confirmation email may have been mistakenly identified as spam by your email provider. Check your spam/junk mail folder to see if the email ended up there.

Invalid Email Address: Make sure that the email address you provided during registration is correct. If there was a typo or the email doesn't exist, you will not receive the confirmation email.

Delayed Email: Sometimes, there might be a delay in the email servers, causing your confirmation email to arrive much later than expected.

Registrar's Email Server Issues: If the domain registrar's email servers are experiencing issues, they may not have sent out an email.

Email Blocked: Some email providers or systems may block certain addresses if they are deemed unsafe. Make sure that your email provider is not blocking emails from the domain registrar.

If you have checked all these factors and still haven't received a confirmation email, follow these steps:

Check your domain status: You can check your domain registration status by doing a WHOIS lookup. If the domain shows that it's registered to you, it may just be an issue with the email.

Contact support: Reach out to your domain registrar's support team for assistance. They can verify your registration and help sort out any potential issues.

Request a new confirmation email: Most domain registrars can resend the confirmation email. Check which options the domain registrar's website has for re-sending confirmation emails.

Remember to keep your contact information up to date on your domain registration. If you change your email address or other contact information, be sure to update it on your domain registrar's website to ensure you receive all future communications.

has not been canceled.
The reason is that the email used for registration has already been verified by the registrar.

it's important to ensure that the email used for domain registration is valid and has been previously confirmed by the registrar. This helps to maintain the authenticity and legitimacy of the domain ownership.

I believe that the email must be verified once during the registration process. Following the registration of each domain, there is no need to reconfirm your email. Notifications regarding payment and new domain registrations will be sent to you. Additionally, you will receive a notification once the domain transfer procedure begins. Furthermore, reminders will be sent if the domain renewal is required.

It's crucial to note that the email confirmation process can vary significantly between different TLDs.
While .com, .net, and .org domains typically require a validation email post-registration, .info domains may not adhere to the same stringent protocols. It's possible that the registrar you used has streamlined their processes or that the .info TLD has less rigorous verification requirements. However, to avoid any potential issues with domain suspension, I highly recommend reaching out to your registrar for clarification.
