Title: Creating subdomains
Post by: berto on Oct 20, 2022, 12:01 AM
I'm looking for a software to create subdomains for my website "aaa.com". Does anyone have any recommendations for an existing solution that allows me to sell subdomains easily?

As an additional question, how does the owner of "it.com" manage their subdomains? And are there any legal concerns I should be aware of, particularly if someone misuses one of my subdomains?

he creation of subdomains for an existing domain is made easy by the ISPmanager control panel, which offers an option called Auto-Domains to automate the process. Through this feature, third-level domains can be generated automatically without the need for configuration changes, thereby saving time and unnecessary hassle.

Typically, subdomains are treated as separate WWW domains with additional directories created under them. In the case of Auto-Domains, however, users only need to create a directory within their chosen location, with its exact location and name depending on certain settings.

It is important to note that manual fine-tuning may become necessary if the number of subdomains is small (less than ten), so it is generally recommended to use Auto-Subdomains only when creating more than ten.

To enable Auto-Domains in ISPmanager, users must log into the Menudomains - WWW-domains page, select the relevant domain, and click "Over-site management". From there, users can access Site Settings and select Additional Features, then Auto-Domains, and choose between two options: "In a separate directory" or "In the domain subdirectory".

With the former option, subdomain files will be located outside the main domain directory, while the latter option will make subdomain files accessible from the main domain and in the same directory. The exact placement of subdomain files will depend on the specific configuration chosen.

Suppose you choose to use a platform like WHMCS to sell subdomains for "aaa.com". You can create hosting packages that include subdomain allocation for clients, such as "Starter", "Business", and "Enterprise" plans, each with a designated number of subdomains included. Clients can then purchase these packages to establish their own subdomains under "aaa.com".

For the management of subdomains for "it.com", the owner may utilize a domain registrar's tools to initially set up the subdomain and configure DNS records. For instance, they might create a subdomain like "blog.it.com" and then use the registrar's DNS management interface to point this subdomain to a specific IP address or server.

Moreover, many hosting providers offer control panel tools like cPanel, which allows detailed configuration of subdomains, such as setting up separate FTP accounts, databases, and SSL certificates for each subdomain hosted on their servers. This would enable the owner of "it.com" to manage their subdomains more effectively.

In terms of legal concerns, consider a scenario where a client sets up a subdomain for "xхx.aaa.com" and uses it for illicit activities. In this case, having clear terms of service specifying that such misuse is prohibited is essential. These terms could include provisions against illegal content, spamming, phishing, or any activities that violate the law. By outlining these guidelines, you establish a basis to take action and potentially terminate services for clients found in breach of the terms.
