Which platform should I choose for a simple portfolio website?

Hello! I'd like to know your opinion on which platform would be the best choice for creating a portfolio website.

For instance, I'm considering having a website like nabil.com/film, where I can showcase different categories such as photos, videos, information, and a blog section.

I also want the flexibility to embed videos, including YouTube videos, and easily add or edit new content. A smooth scrolling feature and the ability to have my own domain are also important to me.

Given these requirements, what do you suggest as the most suitable option? Should I go for WordPress (WP), HTML, CMS? Or maybe I should try using Muse for designing? Another option is purchasing a ready-made layout from platforms like Themeforest. Alternatively, I could search for a suitable theme on platforms like Tumblr or Cargo, but then I would need help with integrating it into my own domain.

I would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations on this matter.

Selecting a pre-designed template for WordPress is the easiest and most optimal choice for you.

Additionally, I suggest exploring options like Photoshop or Instagram for creating your portfolio website. In general, purchasing a suitable template for WordPress will alleviate any concerns you may have.

1. Without a doubt, WordPress (WP) is the clear choice due to its simplicity and abundance of essential plugins.

2. The decision of whether to purchase a template or not is entirely up to you, but it is crucial to carefully consider the target audience. Many templates available on Themeforest cater primarily to Western users, making it challenging for our audience to connect with them. It is important to be cautious when making your selection and I wish you the best of luck.

Even platforms like Blogger can be a viable option for you to consider.

In addition to that, there are specific Content Management Systems (CMS) available for such scenarios, such as Profolio. These CMS platforms are designed specifically to cater to the needs of portfolio websites.

When it comes to creating a portfolio website with your desired features, there are several options you can consider. Each option has its own advantages and considerations, so let's explore them.

WordPress (WP):
WordPress is known for its user-friendly interface and extensive theme and plugin ecosystem. There are countless themes specifically designed for portfolios, allowing you to showcase your work in a visually appealing manner. Additionally, WordPress offers a range of plugins for embedding videos, creating different categories, and adding a blog section. It also supports custom domains, making it easy to have your own unique website address.

HTML:
Creating a website using HTML gives you complete control over the design and functionality. However, it requires knowledge of coding languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. If you're comfortable with coding or willing to learn, HTML can offer maximum customization options and performance. You can easily embed videos, create category pages, and add smooth scrolling effects to enhance the user experience.

CMS platforms:
Content management systems like Joomla and Drupal offer similar features to WordPress but may have a steeper learning curve. These platforms have robust customization options and can handle complex websites with ease. If you have specific requirements or anticipate scalability in the future, CMS platforms might be worth considering.

Muse for designing:
Adobe Muse is a visual web design tool that allows you to create websites without writing code. It provides a drag-and-drop interface and various design options to build your portfolio site. While Adobe no longer supports or updates Muse, it can still be used effectively for static websites. However, bear in mind that without future updates, you may encounter compatibility issues or security vulnerabilities over time.

Purchasing ready-made layouts:
Platforms like Themeforest offer a wide variety of pre-designed website templates created by professional designers. These templates often come with built-in features like portfolio showcases, multiple layouts, and blog sections. While they provide a quick way to get started, customization options may be limited. It's important to carefully review the features and customization capabilities of each template before purchasing.

Tumblr or Cargo:
Tumblr and Cargo are platforms specifically designed for creating portfolio websites. They provide customizable themes and templates tailored for visual portfolios. These platforms offer a simple way to showcase your work without needing extensive technical knowledge. However, keep in mind that integrating them into your own domain may require some technical assistance.
