Title: Hosting Provider or Domain Name Registrar for Domain Registration?
Post by: Pefimettar on Aug 18, 2023, 06:41 AM
What is the preferred option for registering a domain name - with a hosting provider when ordering hosting, or with a separate domain name registrar?

I am inquiring about the advantages of each option, as in the event that I am dissatisfied with my hosting provider, I would like to have the flexibility to easily switch to another one. It is essential that my domains are registered with an independent registrar. Could you also recommend a Ukrainian registrar for domain names?

The preferred option for registering a domain name is with a separate domain name registrar, rather than with a hosting provider. Registering your domain name with a separate registrar gives you more flexibility and control over your domain. If you ever decide to switch hosting providers, having your domain registered independently allows you to easily point your domain to the new hosting provider without any complications.

As for a Ukrainian registrar for domain names, one reputable option is "Hostmaster Ltd." They are an accredited registrar for the Ukrainian top-level domain (.UA) and offer domain registration services. However, it is always recommended to conduct your own research and read reviews before choosing a registrar that best suits your specific needs.

Ukrainian registrars you may consider:

1. "Ukrnames" - They offer domain registration services for various Ukrainian top-level domains (.UA, .COM.UA, .KIEV.UA, etc.) and have been in operation since 2001.

2. "Ukrainian Internet Names Center" (Ukrnames.com.ua) - This registrar provides domain registration services for both Ukrainian and international top-level domains (.UA, .COM, .NET, etc.).

3. "Center of Ukrainian Internet Names" (Hostpro.ua) - They offer domain registration services, along with other hosting solutions.

I have done both options.
While registering with a host is simpler, it may be slightly more expensive from an economic standpoint.

On the other hand, a separate registration requires going through the process of specifying dns servers. Although it is not complex, it does require some knowledge and time investment.

Overall, choosing between the two options depends on individual preferences, budget considerations, and the importance of time. It's essential to evaluate these factors before making a decision.

All you need to do is register the domain with the registrar. If you register the domain with a hosting provider, there is a possibility that after some time, you may discover that the domain is not actually registered to you but to the hosting provider, meaning it does not belong to you.
This is particularly common when purchasing a one-year hosting plan that includes a free domain. Not all hosting providers engage in this practice, but there have been cases of it happening.
