Taking the mindset of a student can reveal why experience sometimes falls short: seasoned individuals may unconsciously overestimate how much novices understand, a phenomenon known as the curse of knowledge. This expertise bias makes it hard for experts to teach or design learning that truly meets learners where they are. As a result, experience alone may be ineffective if it isn't paired with reflection, empathy, and awareness of learners' actual knowledge levels.
