Can I set up a personal mail server if I own a domain? For instance, I have a domain: blablaname.some.com. I want to enable users to send emails to a specific address associated with this domain, bypassing services like Gmail.
I want all incoming messages to be stored directly on my server. Is it necessary to acquire a separate mail domain, or can I use my existing one? I'm considering using Mercury or a standard mail server for this setup.

You can use your domain, blablaname.some.com, as your mail domain, and configure your DNS settings to point to your server. You'll need to set up an MX record to route incoming emails to your server. Mercury or a standard mail server like Postfix or Dovecot can be used for this setup.

Keep in mind that managing a mail server requires expertise in email protocols, spam filtering, and security. You'll also need to ensure your server is configured to handle email encryption, authentication, and other compliance requirements.

Configuring dual Pop3 and SMTP servers for inbound and outbound email communication is a relatively straightforward process, akin to a mere two mouse clicks or an IMAP setup, thereby facilitating effortless email management and synchronization across multiple devices, which is particularly beneficial for individuals juggling multiple roles, such as web designers, webmasters, domainers, hosting specialists, or programmers, who require seamless email functionality to streamline their workflows and enhance productivity.

Configuring a mail server to relay emails to prominent services like Gmail can be a daunting task, fraught with potential pitfalls. To ensure deliverability and maintain a clean sender reputation, it's essential to meticulously set up a plethora of DNS records, including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configurations.
However, even with these measures in place, issues can still arise due to the nuances of third-level domain configuration, which can lead to a perfect storm of email delivery problems, particularly when dealing with stringent spam filtering policies.
