After beginning my journey in web design, I explored user-friendly software options and settled on Figma. However, as I haven't yet begun creating my own projects, I wonder if it's necessary for me to study Photoshop.
Freelance clients often request PSD layouts, but transitioning from Figma to Photoshop is quite challenging.

Graphic designers generally require Photoshop to process images and create collages. Other tools, such as Sketch or Figma, may have difficulty replicating certain tasks or are not equipped for them altogether.

It is important to note that Photoshop should not be used for designing interfaces.

Today, most designers use Sketch or Figma for 90% of their work, and only use Photoshop for the remaining 10%.

When working as a freelancer, it is possible to use various editing tools. The reason customers ask for PSD files is because they may not be aware of other options available to them. As more designers transition to using Sketch or Figma, it is likely clients will request files created with these tools instead.

In fact, informing clients that Sketch or Figma is the preferred tool of choice can often yield better results. As a designer who has worked exclusively with Sketch over the past three years, I have yet to encounter a client who demanded a PSD file.

Figma is an excellent software for both designers and layout designers. I find that I don't even want to switch back to Photoshop once I've started using Figma.

At our office, all of our designers use Figma and haven't experienced any issues or setbacks.

It's important to educate clients on the availability of different tools besides Photoshop, as using Figma can significantly speed up the design process.

If persuasion doesn't work, then it may be necessary to learn how to use Figma in order to streamline the workflow and increase efficiency.

While attending web design courses at the university, I learned how to use Photoshop and HTML in conjunction, which will undoubtedly be useful not only in web development but also in life. In fact, sometimes it can be irreplaceable.

Learning Photoshop for web design is not complex, and it requires minimal knowledge, especially if you only create layouts. Knowing where specific tools are can be enough. However, if you want to delve into photo processing and graphic design, then Photoshop remains unbeatable by any other program currently available.

Transitioning from Figma to Photoshop can present certain challenges, but it's important to understand the reasons behind the clients' request for PSD layouts. Many clients may have an established workflow or legacy systems that require the use of Photoshop files. With this in mind, here are some steps you can take to address this situation:

1. Understanding Client Needs: It's essential to have open communication with your clients about their specific needs. Ask them why they require PSD layouts and if there are any specific features or functionalities that they expect from these files. Understanding their requirements will help you tailor your approach.

2. Learning Basic Photoshop Skills: While you may predominantly work in Figma, learning the basics of Photoshop can be beneficial. Focus on key tasks such as opening and manipulating PSD files, creating and editing layers, adjusting image properties, and exporting designs in different formats. This will allow you to make minor adjustments to PSD files and ensure compatibility with your clients' needs.

3. Conversion and Exporting: Familiarize yourself with the export capabilities of Figma. You can export Figma designs in different formats such as PNG, JPEG, and even PDF. Additionally, Figma allows you to export assets for developers, which can serve as an alternative to providing PSD layouts. Understanding these export options can streamline the process of delivering designs in various formats.

4. Collaboration and Communication: Emphasize the advantages of using Figma for collaborative design work. Share with your clients how Figma allows for real-time collaboration, easy feedback collection, and version history tracking. Demonstrating the advantages of Figma's collaborative features may encourage clients to consider using it as part of their workflow.

5. Educate Clients: If appropriate, take the time to educate your clients about the benefits of modern design tools like Figma. Show them how Figma's capabilities can streamline the design process and improve overall efficiency. By doing so, you may influence clients to consider accepting designs in Figma's native format, reducing the need for PSD layouts.

While learning Photoshop basics may be advantageous for handling client requests, focusing on efficient communication, utilizing Figma's export features, and advocating for modern design tools can help you manage client expectations and streamline your design workflow without completely transitioning from Figma to Photoshop.
