Does it make sense to have new gTLDs?
Many people want to register domains in the .credit and .travel zones.

Are there any risks or pitfalls to consider?

The introduction of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) can offer several benefits, such as increased availability of domain names and more specialized online identities. However, there are certain risks and pitfalls to consider as well.

One potential risk is that many internet users are accustomed to the traditional gTLDs like .com, .org, or .net, and may be less familiar with newer domains. This could lead to a lower level of trust or recognition for websites using these new gTLDs.

Another consideration is the potential for confusion between similar domain names across different gTLDs. For example, if there are domains like example.credit and example.creditcard, users might easily mix them up. This could lead to lost traffic or unintentional exposure of sensitive information.

Furthermore, some gTLDs may be more susceptible to abuse or misuse, such as for phishing or spamming purposes. It is important to carefully monitor and enforce policies to mitigate these risks.

One additional risk to consider is the potential impact on search engine optimization (SEO). Search engines may treat new gTLDs differently, and it may take time for them to fully understand and incorporate these domains into their ranking algorithms. Therefore, registering a domain in a new gTLD could potentially have an impact on search engine visibility and organic traffic.

It's also worth noting that some established brands or companies might face challenges in protecting their trademarks across all gTLDs. With the introduction of numerous new domains, it becomes more difficult and expensive to secure all relevant variations of a trademark to prevent unauthorized use or brand dilution.

Moreover, the pricing structure for new gTLDs can vary significantly, with some being more expensive than traditional gTLDs. This can impact the overall cost of maintaining a domain portfolio.

Another potential pitfall to consider is the potential for increased cyber squatting or domain name speculation. With the introduction of new gTLDs, there may be individuals or organizations that register domain names with the intention of selling them at a higher price later on. This could make it more challenging for businesses or individuals to secure their desired domain names in the new gTLDs.

Additionally, there is no guarantee that all new gTLDs will gain widespread adoption or recognition. Some may fail to attract enough interest or fail to establish a strong user base, resulting in limited visibility and usage. This could make it less beneficial for individuals or businesses to invest in registering domain names within these new gTLDs.

Lastly, it's important to ensure that the new gTLDs are operated by reputable and reliable registry operators. The stability and security of the domain name system can be impacted if the operators do not effectively manage the administration and technical aspects of the new gTLDs.

Considering these potential risks and pitfalls, it is crucial to assess the specific benefits and drawbacks related to the desired gTLDs, conduct thorough research, and weigh the potential benefits against the associated risks before registering domain names in any new gTLDs.

Com - like some organization used to be - is in a category of its own. It is neither fish nor fowl. However, things are changing. Instead of commas, there will be numerous smaller entities that will hold power. Sales for normal prices will become less frequent and more of an exception. This is just my perspective and may not necessarily represent the truth.

I'll add. Take a look, now many new registration zones cost between thirty-five to fifty pounds (or fifty to seventy-five dollars). In the future, people will have a more active role in deciding the value of these domains. For a newcomer, the cost of registration may not be a significant concern. I've seen someone's signature here with a domain price of eleven thousand. A price that is ten times higher than the "usual" price won't deter users. However, the price of com domains will gradually increase (it is already happening), and I also believe that it will be subject to re-registration (like the novozon, which has a two-level com). As a result, the domainer class will eventually die out. Not many people can afford hundreds or thousands of domains with an average renewal cost of twenty pounds. It will become more of a hobbyist's pursuit rather than a business venture.

The level of interest in a domain zone directly impacts the number of registrations within it. It is highly likely that most of the domains in the new zones are acquired by resellers with the intention of profitable resale. However, if these resellers were to let go of their "riches," the new zones would lose considerable value. This, in turn, would undoubtedly affect the demand for genuine end-users in these zones and potentially impact the future of the zones themselves, given their sponsorship status.

After a few years of continued expansion, resellers will eventually evaluate their investments in the new zone. It is uncertain if they will achieve financial success, as the proverbial "debit and credit" balance may not align favorably. Only time will tell the outcome of this situation.

The whole concept of new gTLDs is a scam perpetuated by greedy registries and registrars. They're trying to create a new gold rush by selling domains that are essentially worthless. The majority of new gTLDs will fail to gain traction, and the ones that do will be dominated by a handful of large corporations.
As a result, small businesses and individuals will be left with a bunch of useless domains and a lighter wallet.
