Kansas-based WANRack expands with KwiKom acquisition

Kansas-based fiber optic network provider, WANRack, has recently acquired KwiKom Communications, which operates in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.



The terms of the financial agreement were not disclosed. KwiKom's services include fiber optic and fixed wireless broadband networks for residential and commercial clients with voice, Internet, and video services scheduled for release in Q1 2023. The two businesses will continue to operate under their respective trademarks after the acquisition.

With a region spanning over 30,000 square miles, KwiKom has extended gigabit fiber network services to households and businesses across many markets in Kansas. Meanwhile, WANRack offers high-bandwidth, fiber-based infrastructure for public institutions, businesses, and other entities all across the continental US, with services including E-Rate-compliant lit fiber, dark fiber, and specialized building solutions.

WANRack was exclusively advised by TD Securities, while CBRE Investment Management acted as its financial partner. The transaction is expected to be completed during Q1 2023, subject to regular regulatory clearances and closing conditions.

According to Mike Brigman, President, and COO at WANRack, the acquisition of KwiKom would support the company's vision for growth as KwiKom has a track record of stellar customer service and capacity to expand. For Zach Peres, President at KwiKom, partnering with WANRack and CBRE Investment Management would enable the company to exponentially advance its strategic goals, given how the two companies are an excellent fit.

The acquisition is also expected to expand WANRack's presence in Kansas and beyond, thanks to the inclusion of KwiKom's FTTx capabilities. FTTx refers to a family of fiber-optic technologies that provide high-speed internet and other communications services to customers, where "X" can refer to various locations like homes, buildings, or nodes. The acquisition should bring higher internet speeds, more reliable connectivity, and improved QoS for real-time application deployments, such as online gaming and video conferencing.
