Privacera, a data security governance platform, has unveiled two new integrations with AWS Lake Formation, claiming to augment the level of protection over sensitive data, ensuring privacy and speeding up data analysis within AWS data and analytical contexts.

The additional integrations will provide AWS cloud customers with more autonomy in regulating data security and access policies, giving them an easy and streamlined approach.

Privacera launched in 2016 by the creators of Apache Ranger and claims to have a comprehensive unified data security governance solution, which is compatible with most AWS data and analytics services- Amazon S3, Amazon EMR, Amazon Athena, and Amazon Relational Database Services (RDS), among others. The newest integrations are designed to extend AWS Lake Formation into its support spectrum, enabling customers to create and manage data security and access policies centrally, or use Privacera as a centralized hub instead, thus leveraging the tight integration of AWS Lake Formation with major AWS services.

The first integration makes use of AWS Lake Formation's capability to design, manage, and extend data access policies to different platforms. This new development ensures that customers have more control over data, with fortified security infrastructure. Moreover, data access policy creators can maintain consistency in policies and have a comprehensive view of an organization's data access and security policies.

Customers navigating complex data and analytics environments, who want to achieve unified data security governance on multiple platforms, stand to gain the most from these advancements. Similarly, those who rely on AWS Lake Formation for fine-grained access control on Amazon Redshift Spectrum or Amazon Athena should take advantage of the newer developments for optimal data accessibility.

With the integration of Privacera and AWS Lake Formation, users can benefit from a comprehensive solution that combines data access controls, encryption, auditing, and policy-based data protection mechanisms. Some key features and benefits of this integration include:

1. Fine-Grained Access Control: Privacera enables granular access control policies for individual data elements within the data lake. This allows organizations to define precise permissions and restrictions based on user roles, groups, or attributes.

2. Data Encryption: Privacera provides advanced encryption capabilities to secure data at rest and in transit within AWS Lake Formation. It supports industry-standard encryption techniques and centralizes the management of encryption keys for simplified administration.

3. Dynamic Data Masking: Privacera offers dynamic data masking capabilities, allowing sensitive data fields to be masked or obfuscated based on user privileges or pre-defined policies. This helps protect sensitive information while still enabling data analysis and usage.

4. Auditing and Monitoring: The integration between Privacera and AWS Lake Formation enables comprehensive auditing and monitoring of data lake activities. It provides real-time visibility into data access patterns, usage statistics, and security events, helping organizations meet compliance requirements and identify potential threats.

5. Policy-Based Data Protection: Privacera allows organizations to define and enforce data protection policies consistently across the data lake ecosystem. This includes features such as data retention policies, data classification, and automated data discovery.

By leveraging the capabilities of both Privacera and AWS Lake Formation, organizations can achieve a unified and robust data governance framework. This helps ensure data privacy, compliance, and security while enabling efficient data analytics and collaboration within their AWS data lake environment.
