Simplex, an established data center in Limassol, opened its second data center, the Simplex LCA1 in Cyprus.



While the LCA1 data center started operating in December 2020, it was inaugurated on their second anniversary due to the pandemic's restrictions. The new data center has adopted green technology and sustainability principles in its design. It aims to use renewable energy, especially solar power, for its operations.

The grand opening ceremony of the LCA1 data center in December had more than a hundred guests, including governmental officials, IT experts, and businesspersons. Michael Omerou, the company's Managing Director, announced that Simplex is the first data center operator in Cyprus to be ISO 14001 certified. Moreover, he revealed that the company anticipates having EMAS certification soon, an EU-based management scheme for environmental protection and sustainability.

Over the past two years, the LCA1 data center has received several international awards for its reliability and operational efficiency, including the Impact Bite Awards and recognition as a finalist for the DCD Awards' Middle East & Africa Data Center Development Award.

According to Omerou, the LCA1 data center is vital infrastructure for the country, offering significant economic potential and a much-needed boost to Cyprus' digital transformation. He believes that, together with other tech companies and the government, they can establish an ecosystem that will draw in international tech giants, content providers, cloud providers, and hyperscalers. The presence of such companies would enable them to serve neighboring countries that lack reliable telecoms and electricity infrastructure.

Cyprus' Deputy Minister Kokkinos expressed his enthusiasm for the LCA1 data center's official inauguration, believing that Cyprus is a prime location for data centers and that the LCA1 data center enriches the country's digital infrastructure portfolio, enhancing its position as a regional tech and telecommunications hub.
