The update delivers security patches and improvements in stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Cloud and Ubuntu Core will receive maintenance updates for five years to come. It is highly recommended to use the LTS version for servers, software development PCs, and other critical systems.

LTS releases have a longer lifespan than the normal edition, meaning they are more stable, secure, and trustworthy. All LTS releases receive software upgrades and standard support from the Canonical team for up to five years.

Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS includes numerous quality-of-life improvements and fixes, including installation bug fixes, upgrade bug fixes, kernel and hardware support updates, and desktop fixes.

New features in this release include support for Linux 6.0, AMD PMF Cool and Quiet Framework (CnQF), and Intel DG2. Moreover, Nvidia graphics drivers 515 have been reverted to version 515.65.01.

This update also includes all security updates from the Ubuntu Security Notice list.

This version of Ubuntu brings significant changes and improvements, making it worth considering.

One major change is the transition to GNOME version 42, which provides a flatter look with rounder apps and no arrows on the panel pointing to open menus. Additionally, there are light and dark themes with smooth animation when switching between them. Other new features include the ability to take screenshots and record screencasts with the press of the Print Screen button and the ability to extend battery life or improve performance from the status menu.

Ubuntu's updated color schemes allow users to personalize their desktops by adding color splashes to various user interface elements. This feature complements the Ubuntu color palette, and changing primary colors results in corresponding folder and shell selection colors.

The release includes an updated logo and Ubuntu Yaru theme that better complements the new version of Adwaita in GNOME 42. The default shell now changes from dark to white depending on the theme.

The Linux kernel used in Ubuntu 22.04 is version 5.15, providing improved compatibility with modern hardware, such as Intel Alder Lake processors and Apple M1 processors, while also offering long-term support. Upgrading to kernel 5.17 is easy for computers that aren't supported.

Finally, Firefox has replaced DEB as the default browser in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, bringing more security updates and optimizations to the browsing experience
