Recently, it has come to light that the previously excellent free dns hosting service, free.editdns.net, has been acquired by Dyn Inc. As a result, not only has the service become paid, but even domain transfers are now charged for...

Given these changes, the decision was made to switch to a different hosting provider, preferably one that is reliable and possibly paid.

Presently, there are two domains that are being supported, primarily used for Google mail and services, as well as various tests and other functions such as MX, CNAME, SRV, TXT, NS. Additionally, there are one or more dynamic A-records that are updated by my router, the number of which varies depending on the needs.

After researching, Amazon Route 53 was chosen as the new hosting provider. Have any of you used this service? What positive and negative aspects can you share about it? Is it worth using for personal domains, or should I explore alternatives? Any other recommendations for hosting providers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

P.S. I have personal reservations about DynDNS.com.

During this week, I have been contemplating the direction to take with EditDNS. After careful consideration, I have decided to opt for www.zerigo.com/ypdns.com as the potential new hosting provider. Unfortunately, I have reservations about this choice as it does not instill a sense of confidence.

Choosing the right hosting provider is crucial for ensuring the reliability and security of your domains. It is important to thoroughly research and assess different options before making a decision. Additionally, seeking recommendations and feedback from others who have used the service can provide valuable insights.

Have you considered xname.org as an alternative? It's worth looking into. On another note, I noticed ypdns.com being advertised here. I have personally used it for approximately a year and can confirm that it meets all my requirements.

When exploring different hosting options, it is essential to consider factors such as reliability, customer support, and scalability. It is also important to evaluate the specific features and services offered by each provider to ensure they align with your needs.

Ultimately, finding the right hosting provider involves a balance of personal preference, budget constraints, and technical requirements. Take your time to research and gather information from various sources before making a decision.

In order to implement the scheme, the utilization of a Geo DNS provider will be necessary. An excellent option for this is Amazon Route 53. The proposed solution scheme is as follows:

Firstly, it is required to create a new subdomain under the main domain. Let's use "testi.onthe.io" as an example.

Next, create Geolocation type CNAME records for all default locations, pointing to the subdomain of your chosen CDN provider.

Subsequently, generate separate CNAME records for the specific locations where our servers are located. For instance, let's consider North America as an example:

## Replace "CDN Provider" with the (sub)provider's CDN domain, and expand as needed

As a result, the domain "testi.onthe.io" will deliver content in the following manner:

If a visitor requests content from North America, it will be served directly from the domain "i.onthe.io" (our servers).

On the other hand, if the content is requested from a different country, the CDN provider will handle the request.

This approach allows us to efficiently serve content ourselves without incurring additional costs from the CDN provider.

Implementing Geo DNS with multiple servers can significantly reduce CDN expenses, particularly when serving audiences with concentration points. By strategically distributing content from our servers to specific regions and utilizing CDN for the rest, we can achieve both cost optimization and improved performance.

It's important to note that renting several servers and employing Geo DNS will be necessary to execute this strategy effectively.

Amazon Route 53 is indeed a popular choice for many domain owners due to its robust infrastructure, high availability, and seamless integration with other AWS services. One of the positive aspects of using Amazon Route 53 is its scalability, which allows you to easily handle a varying number of dynamic A-records updated by your router. The service also provides extensive support for different record types, including MX, CNAME, SRV, TXT, and NS, offering flexibility for your domain needs.

Moreover, Amazon Route 53 offers advanced features such as health checks and routing policies, enabling you to optimize the performance and reliability of your domain's traffic. The intuitive management console and well-documented API make it easy to configure and automate domain management tasks.

However, there are some considerations to keep in mind. While Amazon Route 53 is known for its performance and scalability, it's important to be aware of the associated costs, especially if you have a large number of hosted zones or make frequent DNS queries. Additionally, some users have expressed concerns about the complexity of configuring certain advanced routing features.

In terms of alternatives, other reputable DNS hosting providers include Cloudflare, Google Cloud DNS, and Microsoft Azure DNS. Each has its own set of features and pricing structures, so it's worthwhile to compare them based on your specific requirements.

Regarding your reservations about DynDNS.com, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons based on your own experience and research. Ultimately, the choice of a hosting provider should align with the unique needs of your domains while prioritizing reliability, security, and ease of management.
Amazon Route 53 can be a suitable choice for your personal domains, especially given its extensive feature set and integration with AWS services. However, I recommend conducting a thorough evaluation of your requirements and considering alternative providers to ensure that you make an informed decision for your domain hosting needs. If you require any further assistance in evaluating hosting options or setting up your domains, feel free to reach out.
