Instead of immediately delving into the regulations surrounding battery waste, it's important to understand how lead-acid batteries contribute to environmental degradation. Lead is a heavy metal that makes up a significant portion of these batteries, with some containing as much as 80% lead and plastic components. Sulphuric acid is another major component of lead-acid batteries. Both of these materials are incredibly dangerous and harmful to the environment.

The impact of carelessly disposing of lead-acid batteries cannot be overstated- small amounts of spilled lead can quickly contaminate both the ground and groundwater. These hazardous materials actively contribute to soil, air, and water pollution, which exacerbates environmental problems like climate change, biodiversity loss, human health hazards, and pollution. Taking steps towards responsible recycling of batteries, plastics, and electronic waste could go a long way in helping heal the planet.
