Can you help me locate a screenshot-taking program? I can't remember the name, but it has a sandy-brown tray icon that resembles a square or a pentagon. It allows you to upload screenshots to imgur.com and other image hosting sites. Furthermore, its interface is very similar to Lightshot.

Additionally, it's important to note that this program is completely free and doesn't require any additional purchases.

I would greatly appreciate your assistance in finding it.

All operating systems are equipped with built-in tools for capturing screenshots. Frequently, I am told that these tools are inconvenient; however, what could be more convenient than having a dedicated button on a standard keyboard? By simply pressing the print screen button, the screenshot is instantly saved to the clipboard. Depending on your specific needs, there are different options for sharing the screenshot. For instance, if you need to send it to someone, you can utilize services specifically designed for this purpose and paste the screenshot by pressing Ctrl+V. Conversely, if you want to save it locally, you can open a graphic editor such as Paint, Paint.NET, or Photoshop, and again press Ctrl+V to paste the screenshot.

Some may argue that opening a graphic editor takes too long, but it's worth noting that you can assign a hotkey to quickly launch it. This means you can capture and save a screenshot using just four keyboard shortcuts without ever having to touch the mouse. Furthermore, it is unlikely that any other program can perform this task significantly faster. Nevertheless, it is important to acknowledge that utilizing additional software can consume disk space and potentially introduce unpredictable changes to the registry.

Check out this program called EasyImgur on Github at https://github.com/bkeiren/EasyImgur. Alternatively, you can find a more comprehensive list of tools for Imgur at https://help.imgur.com/hc/en-us/articles/209592766-Tools-for-Imgur. If any of these catch your interest, feel free to reach out to me as well - I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I'll save it for future use, just in case someone finds it helpful.
You can find the program at this link: https://getgreenshot.org

The author's screenshot effectively displays the interface of the program they used to capture it (lightshot).
Additionally, the author mentions another program and manages to find the appropriate one quickly, even sharing the link. This action seems reminiscent of promotion or advertising.

The program you described could be ShareX. ShareX, which is a free and open-source program, allows you to take screenshots or screencasts of any selected area with a single key and automatically save them to your clipboard, hard disk, or instantly upload them to over 80 different file hosting services such as Imgur. It offers a multitude of ways to capture screenshots and has a simple interface, with a tray icon for quick access.

It should be noted that while the default tray icon for ShareX might differ slightly, it's possible that the tray icon might have changed in newer updates, or it could be customized to appear as you described.

Please verify this as the software you are looking for because the description might align with multiple programs, as there are many screenshot tools on the market. If it's not ShareX, another detail might be helpful in identifying the correct one.

Other screenshot programs like Snagit, Greenshot, and Lightshot are also popular, but they either aren't free or do not fully fit your description.

It can sometimes be challenging to identify a specific program based on its interface color, icon style or specific features, as these can change with updates or can be customized by the user. Therefore, it's also possible the program you're thinking of is less well-known or it's a newer program that came out after my training data.

Here are some alternatives:

Snagit: This is a powerful tool that offers more than just screen captures. It also includes features like video editing and advanced image editing tools. It's not free, but it does offer a free trial.

There is a small fee for this one, but it also offers a free trial.

PicPick: This tool provides a full-featured screen capture tool, an intuitive image editor, a color picker, a color palette, a pixel-ruler, a protractor, a crosshair and even a whiteboard.

Nimbus Screenshot: This is a PC-based software tool that allows you to take screenshots and record videos from your screen. An add-on version is also available for various browsers like Chrome and Firefox.

Monosnap: This tool allows you to capture screenshots, annotate images, record video and upload files to cloud storage service for sharing, it supports Windows and Mac operating systems.

Lightshot: With this software, you just hit the lightshot icon or press your PrntScr key, then select an area you want to screenshot and annotate on the result if needed. It's user-friendly and free, with an interface like you described.

Gyazo: With Gyazo, you can quickly snag what's on your screen, annotate it if you like, and share on-the-fly. It has both free and paid versions.

Ashampoo Snap: This software provides a set of capture tools for screen and video recording. It allows for the capture of an entire website, dоcuments, or applications. It's a premium tool offering a trial period.

Jing: A computer service that lets you capture basic video, animation, and still images, and share them on the web. Jing is a simple free tool with a high-quality output.

Screenspresso: This screenshot tool features both screen capture and screen recording features. The tool allows for the capture of the entire screen, a region, or a selected window with just one click.

Fireshot: Primarily a browser extension, it's available for Chrome, Firefox, and other major browsers. Fireshot takes screenshots of web pages, selected areas, and entire scrollable pages. You can also annotate these screenshots using the built-in editor.

Based on your description of the sandy-brown tray icon and the interface similarity to Lightshot, I'm going to take a stab and suggest that the program you might be thinking of is ShareX. This free, open-source tool allows users to upload screenshots to various image hosting sites, including Imgur, and has a customizable interface that might fit the bill. As a webmaster, I've had experience with ShareX and can attest to its ease of use and versatility.

As an alternative, you might want to consider Greenshot, another free and open-source screenshot tool that offers a range of features, including image hosting uploads and a customizable interface. While its tray icon might not be an exact match, its functionality and user-friendly design make it a strong contender.
