Why am I expected to shell out money for web hosting? Look at video hosting platforms like YouTube or Vimeo, they offer hosting for free with high-speed servers and unlimited disk space.



Even though videos can take up gigabytes of memory, and websites only take up kilobytes or megabytes. So, why is it that one doesn't have to pay for domain registration or video hosting on these platforms, but has to pay for hosting a website that requires less memory and weaker servers?
It doesn't quite add up, does it? Can someone please explain this to me?
