Our company was recently faced with a significant rise in IAX origination/termination charges for our corporate IAX trunk. We are now seeking other options that can support up to 20 simultaneous calls, invoiced on a per-minute basis, without exorbitant monthly tariffs. In addition, we require providers with connections in the WDC/NJ/NYC region.

Do you have any specific recommendations for reliable and cost-effective alternatives to our current provider? We would appreciate any suggestions that meet our requirements and help us reduce expenses while maintaining the quality of our services.
Also, do you have any experience with similar situations and how did you handle them? Thank you for your input.

You might encounter difficulties with using IAX2 format as it is not very processor efficient and can only run on a single core even if your machine has multiple cores. This is why it's not widely preferred, despite the fact that most operators can provide it.

If you're considering using IAX, keep in mind that it caused processing problems for us when we had wholesale clients interconnect with us using this format. Additionally, we found that IAX doesn't always send hangup codes, which means clients may get billed for calls that have been cut off long after they've ended. While this may not happen frequently, it can start causing problems if it occurs at a certain rate.

If you really want to use IAX2, it's worth contacting your providers to see if they can still offer this feature. Even if they don't advertise it, they may be able to provide it if you ask them directly.

It's important to weigh the pros and cons of using IAX2 before making a decision, as it may not be the best choice for your specific needs. Other formats may be more efficient and reliable, so be sure to do your research and choose wisely.

One option to consider is utilizing SIP trunking. SIP trunks can support a high number of simultaneous calls and are often billed on a per-minute basis, which can help in controlling costs. Additionally, there are providers with connections in the WDC/NJ/NYC region that can meet your specific geographic requirements.

I recommend researching SIP trunk providers that offer competitive per-minute rates and have a strong network presence in the desired region. Look for providers that have a track record of reliability and excellent customer support to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing service.

In my experience, handling similar situations involved conducting thorough market research, obtaining quotes from multiple providers, and carefully assessing the features and quality of service offered. It's essential to communicate your specific requirements clearly and negotiate favorable terms to achieve the best possible solution for your company. Additionally, implementing proper monitoring and performance measurement tools can help in maintaining the quality of services while controlling costs.
By exploring SIP trunking options and engaging with reputable providers in the WDC/NJ/NYC region, you can find a solution that meets your requirements and contributes to cost savings without compromising service quality.
