VPS Hosting Considerations

Hey there. So, my subscription to the virtual hosting on hostland is about to end, and I've made up my mind to switch to a different one (hostland just didn't do it for me). I started looking into other virtual hosting services, but besides encountering negative feedback, I couldn't find anything else worthwhile. I gave a try to several hosting providers, and none of them met my requirements, except for timeweb and webhost1. The main criterion was simple: to test how well yii2 functions on the hosting and check its pagespeed performance. Each hosting displayed different results, and timeweb and webhost1 had the most impressive scores: 82 on smartphone and 91 on PC. As for the other hosting services, their scores dropped, mainly due to issues with caching and compression. Unfortunately, timeweb and webhost1 have received some terrible reviews as well. Every third person claims that their websites often experience downtime.

Now, I stumbled upon vps hosting from gino for just $2 per month. There's a rumor that transitioning from virtual hosting to vps could help eliminate site unavailability issues.

My plan is to host 7 html sites (landing pages) with phpmailer integrated, and 1 built on dle or wordpress. All the sites together receive an average of 200 visits per day. Plus, I want to implement caching and compression for each site, as per pagespeed requirements.

I have no experience with vps before, but I've already found a few guides on configuring the server online, so I don't anticipate facing any major challenges with the setup (except for figuring out the caching and compression part).

So, my question is whether it makes sense for me to opt for such a vps, or will it create more problems for me? Will 900 MHz and 2000 MB of RAM suffice for my needs? Can I really expect to have no issues with site accessibility?

Based on the requirements and needs you have outlined, transitioning to VPS hosting from Gino for just $2 per month could potentially address some of the issues you have been experiencing with site unavailability. VPS hosting generally offers more dedicated resources and control compared to shared hosting, which may result in better performance and uptime for your websites.

In terms of the specifications you mentioned (900 MHz and 2000 MB of RAM), they should be sufficient for hosting 7 HTML sites with PHPMailer integrated and 1 site built on DLE or WordPress, especially considering the average daily traffic of 200 visits per day across all sites. However, it's essential to monitor the resource usage and scaling options as your traffic grows over time.

Implementing caching and compression, as per pagespeed requirements, is indeed crucial for optimizing site performance. With a VPS, you will have more control over these aspects compared to shared hosting, allowing you to configure caching mechanisms and compression settings that best suit your requirements.

While it's true that VPS hosting can potentially offer better site accessibility and performance compared to shared hosting, it's important to keep in mind that managing a VPS also comes with added responsibility. This includes server configuration, security, and maintenance tasks, which you mentioned you are prepared to handle with the help of online guides.

Ultimately, opting for a VPS can be a beneficial step given your requirements, but it's important to carefully assess the specific features and support offered by the VPS provider, as well as the potential for scalability as your needs evolve. Additionally, considering the low cost of the VPS, it may be worth giving it a try and closely monitoring the performance to see if it meets your expectations.

The impact of using shared hosting on performance is quite significant. To achieve maximum performance, it is advisable to consider purchasing a VPS. Ideally, opt for at least 4GB of RAM to avoid excessive memory swapping, although the specific requirements may vary based on individual settings.

For hosting a couple of websites, 800 MHz may suffice, but the reliability and availability of the sites depend heavily on the quality of the hosting provider. It is essential to read reviews and assess the host's track record.

Additionally, consideration should be given to whether the host's IP address is on any ban lists. Cheap VPS hosting often attracts spammers who use the servers to send out large volumes of unsolicited emails, resulting in the IP being blacklisted. This could lead to the VPS being blocked by the host or even marked as spam.

The underlying issue is that once an IP address is listed as spam, it is challenging to have it removed. Therefore, purchasing a VPS from a low-cost or test-period offering host increases the risk of inheriting a tainted reputation from the outset. Extra caution is advised when selecting a VPS host to avoid potential implications on your online presence.

Sure, you have the option to purchase a VPS for yourself. This means that you won't have to worry about sharing resources with other hosting clients. If the current resources are insufficient, don't fret. The server can always be upgraded, whether by adding more RAM or additional processing cores.

Are you really considering a $2 VPS? That screams "low-quality service" right off the bat. With only 900 MHz and 2000 MB of RAM, you're walking a tightrope. Sure, it might handle your current traffic, but what happens when you scale or if your sites get a surge in visitors?

Downtime could still haunt you, especially if the host has a bad track record. Plus, diving into caching and compression without solid support can lead to a frustrating experience. If you're not prepared for potential chaos, you might want to reconsider this "bargain" VPS.
