Hey there, web hosting providers. I'm curious to know what kind of software or services you use to keep an eye on your servers and infrastructure. Currently, I personally use Zabbix to monitor both my cPanel and Centos servers.

What specific aspects are you interested in monitoring? Are you looking to keep tabs on things like PING, HTTP, MySQL, RAID/disk health, temperatures or something else?

Additionally, I'd recommend checking out https://nodeping.com, which allows you to monitor important services such as ping, HTTP, and SSH. In the event that anything goes down, NodePing will promptly notify you. Although not technically software, it's definitely worth taking a look at.

SolarWinds is widely known as a reliable provider of network monitoring applications, offering a range of tools that can meet nearly any networking requirement. Their network performance monitor is especially well-regarded and can be used to manage your servers and applications across a variety of locations, including on-premises, in data centers, remote areas, and the cloud.

PRTG is another top-flight network performance monitor that includes a variety of modules designed to monitor all aspects of your network. In addition to tracking servers and applications, this tool enables you to manage your entire network effectively. It comes with pre-set trigger conditions that will immediately alert you if your server or related applications crash, allowing you to prioritize troubleshooting efforts.

Nagios is yet another full-featured network monitoring tool that excels at server and application monitoring due to its ability to conduct both monitoring and agentless monitoring. It also includes over 3500 add-ons from the Nagios community to help users obtain more performance data from monitored devices.

Logic Monitor is another incredibly useful tool for monitoring servers, whether they are located locally or in the cloud. Additionally, Logic Monitor can be used to track virtual machines, storage resources, applications, and websites.

Finally, server analysis reports can be a crucial way to predict and address issues before they lead to more serious problems. They are also helpful in preparing for potential hardware upgrades that may become necessary in the future.

Apart from Zabbix, which you mentioned, some commonly used monitoring tools include Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, Datadog, and SolarWinds. These tools help track server performance, availability, resource usage, and other crucial metrics to ensure smooth operations. Ultimately, the choice of software or services depends on the specific needs and preferences of each web hosting provider.

popular monitoring tools and services used by web hosting providers:

1. Nagios: This open-source monitoring system is widely used for network, server, and application monitoring. It can send notifications when issues arise and provide detailed performance data.

2. Prometheus: A flexible, open-source monitoring and alerting toolkit that is popular for collecting and analyzing time-series data. It can be integrated with other tools like Grafana for visualization.

3. Grafana: This open-source platform allows users to create customizable dashboards for visualizing and analyzing various metrics and time-series data. It supports integration with multiple data sources and provides rich visualization options.

4. New Relic: A cloud-based observability platform that offers application performance monitoring (APM), infrastructure monitoring, and synthetic monitoring. It helps identify performance bottlenecks and gain insights into application health.

5. Datadog: A monitoring and analytics platform that provides real-time visibility into metrics, logs, and traces from across the infrastructure and applications. It offers integrations with numerous technologies and features anomaly detection and alerting capabilities.

6. SolarWinds: A comprehensive suite of IT management tools, including network monitoring, server and application monitoring, database monitoring, and log management. It offers a wide range of features for monitoring and managing complex environments.

and more:

1. PRTG Network Monitor: A comprehensive network monitoring solution that offers real-time monitoring of network devices, bandwidth usage, and performance metrics. It supports various technologies and provides customizable dashboards and alerting.

2. Sysdig: A container intelligence platform that provides monitoring, troubleshooting, and security for containerized environments. It offers deep visibility into containers, Kubernetes, and cloud-native applications.

3. AppDynamics: A full-stack application performance monitoring (APM) platform that helps identify and resolve performance issues in real-time. It provides insights into application performance, user experience, and business impact.

4. Pingdom: A website monitoring service that checks the availability and performance of websites from different locations globally. It offers uptime monitoring, transaction monitoring, and performance insights.

5. ELK Stack: A combination of Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana, commonly used for log management and analysis. It helps collect, analyze, and visualize logs and provides real-time insights into server and application logs.

6. AWS CloudWatch: A monitoring and observability service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). It enables monitoring of AWS resources, applications, and custom metrics, and provides dashboards, alerts, and automated actions.

I prefer using ELK Stack for monitoring logs and performance metrics. Zabbix has its merits, but it lacks the depth that ELK provides for analyzing complex data. If you're serious about monitoring, stop settling for less. Zabbix can be limiting, especially when you need granular insights. Upgrade your toolkit and leverage modern solutions that can scale with your needs.
