Title: Managing Multiple Joomla Sites
Post by: juicebrenner on Aug 31, 2023, 12:13 AM
I personally manage three websites, all of which are hosted on Namecheap and run on Joomla. These sites are currently hosted on the same web server. However, recently I have been facing issues where any changes I make to the sites, such as adding new content or menu items, result in the sites becoming inoperable. Whenever I try to access the admin panel, I encounter an error 500. Sometimes these issues last for a week before resolving themselves.

What's interesting is that all three sites are on the same web server. One of the sites, specifically the one using Joomla, experienced problems even when I tried to switch to a new tariff and add more RAM at the advice of the support service. Unfortunately, changing the tariff didn't solve the issue. Instead, the support team suggested that I contact a system administrator. In an attempt to resolve the problem, I reinstalled Joomla and changed the template, but this caused the second site to collapse.

My knowledge of HTML and CSS is limited to the basics. In the past, I've been able to handle website-related issues, but lately, the problems have become more complex, leaving me with no energy or time to address them properly. In summary, it seems necessary to migrate all three sites to a more modern platform. I'm considering moving to a different hosting provider and switching to a different CMS, as Joomla has been quite buggy lately. Additionally, the current hosting service is slow and expensive.

Two of the sites focus on printing, stamps, and print-related services. We want to create a landing page and a portfolio catalog for these sites. The third site provides legal services. I would appreciate any recommendations you might have. Should I change both the hosting provider and CMS? Are there any self-creation and site maintenance solutions available?

Based on the issues you've been experiencing with Joomla and your current hosting provider, it does seem like a good idea to explore other options. There are several CMS platforms available that you may find more reliable and user-friendly.

One popular CMS option is WordPress. It offers a vast library of themes and plugins that can help you create a professional website for your printing and legal services. WordPress also has a large community of users who can provide support and guidance if needed.

When it comes to hosting providers, there are many reliable options available. Some popular ones include Bluehost, SiteGround, and DreamHost. These providers often offer affordable plans, good server performance, and reliable customer support.

If you're looking for a self-creation and site maintenance solution, you may consider website builders such as Wix or Squarespace. These platforms offer simplified website creation processes with drag-and-drop interfaces. They also provide hosting services, so you won't have to worry about finding a separate hosting provider.

Here are a few more details and considerations to help you in your decision-making process:

1. Content Migration: When migrating your websites to a new CMS, you'll need to transfer your existing content, such as articles, images, and files, to the new platform. Some CMS platforms, like WordPress, provide plugins or built-in tools to simplify this process. However, it is essential to test the migration process on a staging environment first to ensure that everything transfers smoothly.

2. Customization and Design: Evaluate how important customization and design flexibility are for your websites. WordPress offers a wide range of themes and plugins that allow you to customize the appearance and functionality of your sites. Wix and Squarespace, on the other hand, provide more streamlined design options with limited customizability. Consider whether you prefer a code-free approach or have the freedom to modify the website's code directly.

3. E-commerce Functionality: If you plan to sell products or services on your printing-related websites, consider a CMS with strong e-commerce capabilities. Platforms like WordPress with the WooCommerce plugin, Shopify, or BigCommerce offer comprehensive e-commerce features that can help you create an online store.

4. Scalability: Think about the future growth and scalability of your websites. Ensure that the chosen CMS can handle increased traffic and additional functionalities as your business expands. Consider whether the hosting provider can easily accommodate your growing needs, such as providing scalable hosting plans or easy migration options if required.

5. SEO Considerations: Check if the CMS you select has robust SEO optimization features built-in or available through plugins. Good SEO practices are crucial for improving your websites' visibility in search engine rankings and driving organic traffic.

6. Support and Community: Consider the availability of support resources and a strong user community for the CMS you choose. The availability of dоcumentation, forums, and tutorials can help you troubleshoot issues and learn more about optimizing your websites.

Joomla is an excellent content management system, and it shouldn't have any bugs or slow down on its own. It's essential to check the logs and perform an audit to identify what might be causing server overload, which requests are taking too long to execute, and so on. Instead of immediately switching to WordPress, why not explore potential solutions within Joomla?

Sometimes, pinpointing the root cause of performance issues can lead to significant improvements, making it unnecessary to switch platforms right away. Additionally, by leveraging Joomla's robust features and community support, you may find innovative ways to optimize your website and enhance its overall performance. Take the time to investigate and experiment before making a decision.

Jumla is actually quite impressive, and Wordpress is also satisfactory. It appears that there may have been some mishaps during the transition to new versions. One possible solution could be to ensure that the new Jumla requires a minimum of PHP 5.4... Oh no, you're experiencing a 500 error!
In this case, changing hosting providers might be beneficial, although there is still a chance that the same issue could occur again. Another possibility could be that malicious code has been implanted, resulting in the heavy load.
