There is Linux at webserver provider. Is it possible to place Windows there?

Hello everyone!

I came across a great VPS deal, but it only supports Linux.

Do you think it's feasible to set up Windows Server on any of the available operating systems? These are the options:

     Cent OS 8
     Cent OS 7
     Debian 10
     Debian 9
     Ubuntu 20.04
     Ubuntu 18.04
     Ubuntu 16.04
     Fedora 32
     openSUSE Leap 15.1
     FreeBSD 12.1
     Arch Linux

What are your thoughts?

It's possible, but it's difficult to swap out the container. It's doubtful that this is a feature that is available to the user. One option could be to attempt an update from within Windows, but it's uncertain if this will work.

I've had a similar experience trying to update the kernel on an ubuntu VPS. Unfortunately, it didn't succeed and I had to contact technical support. They informed me that in the OpenVZ environment, it's not possible to update the kernel.

It may be, check your VPS environment. I think it's quite possible if you use Cent or Arch Linux, ubuntu is less likely to be organized somehow and it's just turning off when you try to deploy windows on there.

Setting up a server is a fairly straightforward process. For simple tasks, you can use a regular computer and install a server operating system on it. This computer can then be connected to a local network or the internet. If you want your server to be accessible via the internet, it requires a permanent external IP address. Servers usually operate non-stop, but can be turned off when not in use.

For simpler tasks, you can install a local server on your computer using a special program. You can work on your computer and use the server simultaneously as long as there are enough resources available. To install a local server on Windows, you can download the Denwer program and follow instructions from various sources available online. The same applies for installing a local server on Linux.

Corporate servers are installed in special racks that can be purchased from various online resources. When buying a rack, ensure that it is installed in a well-ventilated area with free access. Once the rack is installed, server components are placed in special chassis where they are arranged compactly. The server operating system can be installed on the server after the chassis is inserted in the rack and it is ready for use.

Generally, it is not feasible to directly install Windows Server on the provided Linux operating systems. Windows Server is a separate operating system that requires its own installation process. However, there are some alternatives you can consider.

One option is to use a virtualization software like VirtualBox or VMware to run Windows Server within one of the available Linux operating systems. This allows you to create a virtual machine and install Windows Server on it.

Another option is to look for a VPS provider that offers Windows Server as an operating system option. There are many hosting providers that support Windows Server installations on their virtual private servers.

Ultimately, the feasibility of setting up Windows Server depends on the specific requirements of your project or application. It's important to consider factors such as compatibility, performance, and support before making a decision.
