DynaDot "Late Renewal Fee" bug

DynaDot sent out a mailing list a few months back, warning that users would have to pay more money for expired domains. At the time, I didn't pay much attention to it. However, when my own domain name expired and went up for auction, I had no choice but to renew it - even though I assumed there would be a price increase. The domain renewal itself cost $12.99, while there was an additional Late Renewal Fee of $10.00. It's a good reminder to renew domains on time to avoid extra expenses.

On a related note, it's unfortunate to hear about the poor experience with the receptionist. Perhaps DynaDot could improve their customer service in this area.

I attempted to register a .COM domain on Dynadot today for $9.99, but when it came time to pay, Dynadot demanded 10 euros instead of $9.99. Furthermore, they refused to accept payment in dollars, even though I had specified this in my payment preferences.

This issue seems to have arisen overnight, as yesterday everything was working fine. I double-checked my payment settings and confirmed that I have requested payments in dollars, but Dynadot still attempted to charge me in euros. I'm not sure if there is a significant difference in the price paid between paying in dollars versus euros.

I reached out to Dynadot's support team to inform them about their dishonest behavior, and have warned them that I will be ending my business relationship with them if this issue isn't resolved. It remains to be seen how they will respond.

Recently, Late Renewal Fees have been introduced by Dynadot at a cost of $10.00. As a result, users are no longer required to pay the fee directly - instead, it is taken out by transfer, according to the forum user MrKIM.

To avoid any last-minute stress or potential issues with support, some domain owners remove their private registration in advance. When a domain name expires, the private registration setting is automatically turned on and must be removed prior to transfer. This can help owners determine the value of the domain name at auction.

I used this approach myself in the past, until the Late Renewal Fee was introduced. Surprisingly, I received offers and even made sales at prices close to the auction. However, the downside is that the domain name will be out of control for nearly 40 days. Nonetheless, I found that if the private registration is removed, domain control remains with the hosting company rather than with Dynadot.

DynaDot is generally considered to be a reliable registrar. However, it is worth noting that they may choose to verify initial payments, which could result in a delay of up to one week. Depending on the payment method and bank used, they may also request additional documentation to ensure the transaction is legitimate.

Domain transfers typically go smoothly with DynaDot, as they provide an acceptor (which sends a confirmation link via email) to speed up the transfer process to another registrar.

One downside to using DynaDot is the additional fee introduced last year for renewing domains within 10 days of the start of the GRP period, during which the domains are put up for their Expired auction. This is supposedly to prevent domain monitoring, however it is possible to transfer domains to another registrar during this period.

The scenario you've described, where the renewal cost amounted to $12.99 with an additional late renewal fee of $10.00, serves as a poignant example of the financial implications associated with allowing domains to lapse. It underscores the significance of maintaining a well-structured and efficient system for managing domain renewals to mitigate unanticipated expenses and the potential loss of a domain through auction.

In considering the customer service component, it's disheartening to learn about the unfavorable encounter with the receptionist. Customer service excellence is paramount within the domain industry, and enterprises such as DynaDot should continually assess and elevate their customer support mechanisms to ensure the contentment and fidelity of their clientele.
